The Silver Stag is book one in The Wild Hunt series by Yasmine Galenorn. This was a delightful start to the series. I had a blast and was sucked in. It’s a fast-paced action-packed mystery full of magic.
Ember is an interesting character being half light and dark Fae. She doesn’t know what gifts she has nor do we, but I’m sure as we read on in the series we will learn more. I liked that she is so dedicated to her BFF Angel. She is an amazing friend and it shows in this novel when her friends brother is missing.
We meet many characters along the way. One is Herne – Ember’s love interest, Angel – Ember’s BFF, and the Wild Hunt crew. All the characters we meet are unique and add to the story. I had a fun time with them all.
Things move fast and Ember is forced out of the shadows and into the Wild Hunt. They are a group of supernaturals keeping balance in the world of humans. Its an interesting set up. The world building is great with loads of mythology woven in. It is a lot to take in in one book. As first books go it was an info dump, but still I was pulled into the mystery and the Wild Hunt.
The romance is subtle in this first novel. We focus on the mystery and helping Angel.
I had a blast with The Silver Stag and I acutely went out and bought books 2 & 3 after finishing this one. I really enjoyed the mist-fit cast of characters and the world. I can’t wait to see where things go and what mystery we will solve next with the Wild Hunt. Urban Fantasy fans will enjoy this brisk and dynamic read!
Rated: 4 Stars
This was such a great book introducing us to the wonderful world of The Wild Hunt. You get pulled in from page one and it only gets better from there.
I have been a fan of Ms Galenorn for years
This one of my favorite series. Love , friendship, fire and steam . If she keeps writing I will keep reading.
Set sometime in the future, Earth is inhabited by the Fae, witches, vampires, ogres, and humans. Ember Kearney has been working as a bounty hunter, and her best friend, Angel, Has asked for help in finding Angel’s brother DJ. The rescue involves a silver stag, an introduction to a secret war between the light Fae and the dark Fae, and changes Ember’s and Angel’s lives forever. Once you accept the magical background in this novel, the plot unfolds as almost any murder mystery would. The characters are interesting, the situations vary from funny to dangerous to heartbreaking to dangerous. All in all, this was a nice read. Despite the fact that it is the first book in a series, the book did have a sense of ending, of fulfillment of the plot.
I love any book from this author.Great story!
A little too graphic in the sex department for my tastes, but drwn in by the characters and the fascinating mystery of the book.
I like when an author moves the story along and not drops important in a fast paces.
I enjoyed this book – a different take on books of a similar genre.
It’s always nice to have characters who must overcome their own inherent flaws. Original story with great potential as things develop.
Great read!! I bought book 2 in the series the moment I finished this one. Cannot wait to dive in.
Wow, I love it, on the 4th book now, got to see how this ends
This is a new author to me. Loving her,Wild Hunt series. Plan on reading her other series too. Highly recommend.
Characters are ones you want to follow & see what happens next. Good story line.
Bad language right out the gate. Didn’t read.
This is the third series I’ve read by this author and I have never been disappointed. I always feel like I’m right there with the characters experiencing everything with them.
Mildly interesting plot. Too wordy.
I enjoyed reading this book. Enjoyed the characters and how it built looking forward to reading the next one
This is the first in the Wild Hunt series. It’s off to a good, exciting start. The main characters are well-described and fleshed out. The plot gradually clears, describing a Seattle in an alternate reality, with humans, vampires, Light Fae, Dark Fae, and other supernatural entities. One of the main characters is the son of a god and goddess; he’s the Silver Stag who runs the Wild Hunt agency, assisted by several characters with very interesting skills and powers. The agency is tasked to prevent the various ‘ethnic’ groups from starting a war that could destroy the world as we know it. It seems the main female character, Ember, was fated to become a member of the Wild Hunt team. Book 1 is the story of how it happened. Now she has to learn the skills needed to survive and prevent mayhem. But there are strict rules just how much they can interfere (and it’s not very much). So they must use their wits. It was a fast read, difficult to put down because so much is happening, and you just want to find out. A good solid ending, leading you on to Oak & Thorns (The Wild Hunt Book 2)
A whole lot of fun reading this book, looking forward to the rest of the series, awesome story-telling, as to be expected from Yasmine!
I am so in love with this series. I love the main characters, the world, and the premise. I enjoy good urban fantasy. I know it feels a bit worn to alot of people at this point, but this author’s writing takes mythical races and makes them seem realistic. I can’t wait for more.
