The New York Times bestselling novel soon to be a major motion picture starring Nicole Kidman, for fans of The Woman in the Window and The Silent Patient.”I gobbled it down in one sitting.” – Anne Lamott, People
Jodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their beautiful waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, … waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. He is a committed cheater. She lives and breathes denial. He exists in dual worlds. She likes to settle scores. He decides to play for keeps. She has nothing left to lose. Told in alternating voices, The Silent Wife is about a marriage in the throes of dissolution, a couple headed for catastrophe, concessions that can’t be made, and promises that won’t be kept. Expertly plotted and reminiscent of Gone Girl and These Things Hidden, The Silent Wife ensnares the reader from page one and does not let go.

Nope…. Didn’t see that ending….
The author does a wonderful job writing realistic and very flawed characters. You can see the hapless adulterous husband, the passive introverted wife, and the spoiled manipulative younger woman converge like a slow-motion train wreck that you can’t tear your eyes from.
It captured my interest immediately. A quick read. I enjoyed it.
It was an easy read plus the ending took me totally by surprise. I love that.
This book seemed to be following the trend of chapters from different points of view, alternating between “Her” and “Him”. I found the first third of the book a little boring, waiting for something to happen, then it got interesting in the middle, but really fizzled out at the end. Well, actually, there WAS no end. It kind of left me hanging.
I didn’t find any of the characters likable, and I was glad when the book was over and I could go on to something else.
Didn’t like it.
Talk about revenge gone wrong. This was a story of betrayal for Jodi and a story of the grass is always greener on the other side because it might be astroturf for Todd.
It started of slow and at times following in audio wasn’t the easiest. Especially the back and forth conversation. Which I’ve still am trying to figure out if it was a text message of therapy conversations that they transcribed into words.
Other than that one fault I was blown away with the work. The twisting story the morphed into a reality for Jodi, for so many women. While this is a fictional pieces the ploy is one that all too formal in today society.
If you looking for a crumbling marital dispute gone more array than the usual this is it.
Plus the dual narration, breaking up the chapters between Jodi and Todd was spot on. The tones matched the described characters to a T.
I read it, but have forgotten it!
I chose to read this book because I wanted something fast and easy. But the book hooked me after the introduction describing her thinking of ending her marriage with murder. So from beginning to end, I knew Jodi planned to murder Todd. But the resolution of how the murder took place was a little surprising and left me thinking about what had happened and why. Fast and easy read with a lingering aftertaste.
I had a hard time putting it down! Interesting characters, interesting twists!
Great, Great Read. Real Page turner.
I read a lot of reviews that ran this book down. That was after I had finished it. I liked the back and forth between characters and I stayed up til past one in the morning to find how it ended. Some people said they didn’t get it but I did and would recommend it. I’m sorry the author passed away.
Loved every minute of this story!
Oh my heck!!!! It had me guessing. Very well written! – Mirella
Couldn’t put this book down!!
Hard to put this one down. I would recommend
it was sure different. i liked it
I read the reviews of this book and was told I’d like the women at the end. She had a rough upbringing but that didn’t make me sympathetic. If she had made a real commitment to their relationship by marrying things may have been different.
I enjoyed the book and look forward to seeing the movie.
Pretty outlandish… found a lot of the book just slow moving and boring…. it’s no Gone Girl!!!
