The New York Times bestselling novel soon to be a major motion picture starring Nicole Kidman, for fans of The Woman in the Window and The Silent Patient.”I gobbled it down in one sitting.” – Anne Lamott, People
Jodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their beautiful waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, … waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. He is a committed cheater. She lives and breathes denial. He exists in dual worlds. She likes to settle scores. He decides to play for keeps. She has nothing left to lose. Told in alternating voices, The Silent Wife is about a marriage in the throes of dissolution, a couple headed for catastrophe, concessions that can’t be made, and promises that won’t be kept. Expertly plotted and reminiscent of Gone Girl and These Things Hidden, The Silent Wife ensnares the reader from page one and does not let go.

Very unpredictable. It had a very unique twist I did not see coming.
I was expecting more of a twist. Main characters were not real likable.
Good read
Fabulous book! Couldn’t put it down. Characters well developed! Our book club is reading it!
Loved this read
Interesting use of perspectives from the husband and wife move the story along. There are enough revelations and twists to keep you reading. Just when you think you’ve got things figured out, surprise!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a look a the psychology of the mind that makes us tell stories to ourselves to keep from seeing or knowing the truth about ourselves or a situation and also keeps self-awareness at bay, even for the wife who is a psychologist. Husband: “It isn’t my fault that I have affairs. I’m so confused because it is all out of my control.” Wife (20 years of living together but not married): “I’ve done everything I can to keep us together & make him happy. This too shall pass & he’ll come back & not marry the sweet young (pregnant) 20-something.”
I think the working of the characters was great. I definitely hated Todd, the husband, and felt he was incredibly narcissistic. Jodi was also very air-headed, even though she was supposed to be a therapist. However, I really liked the dynamic they had as a couple and think Harrison did a great job of grabbing the reader’s attention and keeping it until the end.
Psychological mystery with plenty of twists and turns.
Intriguing premise but I just felt the psychological ramblings went on a bit too long. That these two even tolerated the situation they were in is believable to an extent, but his character seemed a bit much to me. I know there is a thing as self-delusion but this guy was out to lunch. Not quite as good as Gone Girl.
A psychological thriller which enters the darkest recesses of the human psyche.
The reader is subjected to a voyeuristic look into the basis of human behavior through witnessing the dissolution of a twenty year relationship. The author used an incredible knowledge of psychological theories to develop and carry out a plot so subtle and frightening that it must be read. So impressed by the reality of human behavior and character development before the ability to remember, I found myself agitated and apprehensive. Each chapter confirmed theories of behaviour such as Skinner, Freud, and others, I am duly impressed. What causes us to develop as we do, act as we do and all before memory is recalled? To what end are we ultimately capable? This plot has no twists, no one big rabbit out of a hat, but a subtle building of tension based on what many consider to be not a real science. I consider this a MUST READ. An unforgettable experience.
After reading Gone Girl, the book this one was compared to, it’s slow and the character development is slow. I mainly kept reading to see if it would amp up.
Good read
I had purchased this book expecting it to be a sunspenseul thriller with an evil wife hatching a cunning plot. It was more of a chic lit effort describing marital breakdown than a page turning exciting exposure of wicked behaviour
I loved this book. The plot is very clever and the characters are well drawn. The writing is flawless. Don’t miss this one!
An audiobook I listened to while exercising. Amusing concept; good character development and the book was read in different voices for the male and female protagonists.
Perhaps I expected too much from the preview, but was not a page turner. Held my interest, and was expecting “surprises”, but got none.
Great book. Highly recommended for Book Clubs as there is so much material in book to talk about
The Silent Wife Written by A. S.A. Harrison
This is a terrific story that is interesting and the characters are very well developed. This is my second time reading The Silent Wife. Enough time has passed between my first and second reading of this gem of a book.
It explores what happens wben infidelity occurs between a seemingly secure couple. The protagonist is a very efficient cook and housekeeper who also balances seeing patients in her mornings at home as a psychologist. She lives with her partner never feeling n need to get married for almost two decades.
Then her partner has an affair that puts our protagonist in situation that none of us would see coming or would want to be faced wkth.
No spoilers here as I don’t wish to spoil the story.
Let’s just say that the solution to our seemingly perfect protagonist $ituation is fascinating. How she decided to handle the problem is original and will keep you turning the pages.
This was a character study as well as a slow burn from @ happy arrangement to a nightmare. I was mesmerized and felt sorry for both main characters.
I do not recommend the solution our protagonist employs in this novel. This is original and fresh and I found it to be so memorable as to how much I enjoyed it to purchase both the digital and physical copy of this novel. If you are looking for a book to ‘capture your undivided attention then this is the perfect choice.
I absolutely loved this book. I thought it was very original and quite a page turner.
