Intriguing premise but I just felt the psychological ramblings went on a bit too long. That these two even tolerated the situation they were in is believable to an extent, but his character seemed a bit much to me. I know there is a thing as self-delusion but this guy was out to lunch. Not quite as good as Gone Girl.
I couldn’t put this book down, best book I’ve read so far in 2019.
Great read! Story of a family and the secrets that almost destroy them. Two brothers with a domineering mother. One is married to his second wife and she is emotionally and at times physically abused. He is a tyrant especially to his son regarding swimming. The other son is a widower with a teen daughter who marries a strong woman who uncovers the families secrets and also gives courage to her SIL. So well written. Wish there was a more final resolve with one brother but it was done very well
A first book for me by this wonderful author. A realistic portrayal of customs and how family violence works. A story of escape and salvation along with the family awakening. The characters were well developed and remarkably real. A story of blending step-families and acceptance. All portions of things I have lived in and through including living in Italy. Bravo for putting this out for readers
I really enjoyed and appreciated this book. It is the story of the second wives of two Italian brothers, with all the baggage that entails, not the least of which is an overbearing and critical mother-in-law. But it was also an honest and insightful portrayal of how confusing and pervasive the self-doubt and self-blame can be in an abusive relationship. It sheds compassionate light on the often-made decision to stay. This was my first Kerry Fisher book, but I will definitely be back for more.
Loved all the twists and ending.
This is my first with this author and I enjoyed the book. The author weaved the two lead women characters together nicely and the story line kept me reading. I’d read her again.
THE SILENT WIFE by Kerry Fisher is mesmerizing. One of the characters (no spoilers here) is utterly hateful. Watching the person is like watching a spider on a web waiting for its next victim to get caught in a tangle of sticky lies and half-truths. The ending, while unexpected, is hugely satisfying. I highly recommend this book.
Slow moving at first, but eventually picked up. Interesting story.
Kept you guessing!
Every family has secrets, but the Farinelli family seems to have more than their fair share, and they are secrets that they would like to stay buried. But the newest addition to the family, Maggie, seems to have stumbled onto some of them while in her attic, and now she is walking a fine line between trouble and safety. Bringing the secret to light could disrupt her new perfectly coiffed life with her husband Massimo, and also bring unwanted trouble her way. But then she makes an another startling discovery, she is not the only one who know’s her husband’s secret… her sister in-law Lara knows something too.
The Silent Wife is a dramatic page-turner that will pull you in from the first page and keep you enthralled until the last. This one comes bearing plenty of family drama, it introduces readers to Massimo and his brother Nico, and the women who have recently found their way into their lives, Lara and Maggie. These ladies discover a family secret that stirs up a whole host of trouble, it questions where loyalties lie, brings hidden fears and deceptions to light, and tests the bounds love. This being my first novel from this author, I wasn’t sure quite what to expect, but I have to say I was quite impressed with all I found tucked away between the pages of this one. The story line was absorbing and well paced, the characters were well crafted and easy to connect to, and the words came with feeling that could not be ignored. I have a feeling this one is going to be a hit with readers, the journey it will take them on will be unforgettable!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am leaving my honest opinion.
I enjoyed this book and provide and interesting look at the lives involved
This is an touching story about a family riddled with secrets that will leave you an emotional mess until the end.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the difference in the personalities of the characters and how each helped the other. Very good story.
Wow!!!! Fantastic book
Loved the characters, full of emotion. Surprise happenings.
Wasn’t sure I was going to like this book but actually found it to be a great read. Wasn’t suspenseful like a crime novel but had you guessing what the outcome would be.
Great book! The story of two women who are the second wives to two brothers in a close knit Italian family. Plenty of family secrets in this one! What is the truth about the first wives and is the perfect marriage really perfect? Fast- paced suspense filled read!
Kerry Fisher is so good at creating mystery in seeming everyday characters who surprise you in interesting ways. And, listening to the book narrated by a talented British narrator–bliss !
It had spots that were slow reading but overall the book was good.
