This was probably the best book by K.L. Slater I’ve read. It draw me in slowly and then I was stuck and couldn’t stop reading. The suspense is building up and you know that it’s going to be so much more worse then you thought in the beginning. Two little girls accused of a heinous crime and before even knowing the circumstances everybody has already judged them and their families. Juliet bears already so much guilt about an accident involving her brother that this incident with her girl is threatening to push her over the edge. Her parents and sister aren’t really helping in being willing to put it all under the rug. There is so much hush hush in this family that, in times, I screamed out in frustration. And then came the ending, and it was just…..What? Mind blowing . This is a book everyone should read.
A story of past and present secrets colliding with a gripping plot intertwined around an arcane murder. K.L. Slater does it once again as she seamlessly narrates a story-line full of trepidation and intrigue. The characters are each uniquely developed and play perfectly off one another. The writing is smooth and effortless while keeping the reader engaged. Perfect for readers who are burned out on familiar tropes and indulgent foreshadowing as Slater offers none of this. She goes the complete and opposite direction, leaving literary pandemonium in her wake. Great read. 5 stars.
Thank you to #NetGalley for this ARC of #TheSilentOnes
Thriller about two young girls, cousins, Maddy and Brianna. Off school for the day. They are bored, and know they know they are not being watched. Closely by their grandparents. They skip down their small road and visit an elderly woman. What happens next leaves them in major trouble and not talking. Family dynamics are at the center of this book. Most of the characters are not likable for one reason or another. But your blood will boil as secrets and lies come to light and answers are revealed.
Well written. The action starts immediately, and so many lies are being told that you will turn the pages quickly to get to the end, which I didn’t expect. Great vacation read!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone.
Kim Slater continues her winning streak with The Silent Ones. A psychological thriller about two sisters with two 10-year old daughters, a horrific killing and the girls aren’t talking. Who did it, who’s responsible – as the case unfolds family secrets begin to spill out and there are twists that you won’t see coming. Very well done!
