⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“Schoolgirl missing”, the ticker reads, and the camera cuts to a girl’s face. Blonde hair waterfalling over her shoulders, serious eyes, lips a little parted like she’s about to speak. That’s when I realize I’ve been holding my breath, because the gasp when I inhale almost chokes me.
Sadie Kelly has lost her job. Until last month, she was a teacher at Horton College – the same high school she went to ten years ago along with her best friend, Fiona. But Fiona died in a tragic accident on their graduation night, and since then nothing’s been the same. Now Sadie’s back in her home town, living with Fiona’s mother, the woman who has watched over Sadie since she was a little girl, and the one person Sadie would do anything to protect. But when Sadie hears that star student Devon Hundley has gone missing from Horton College, everything changes. Because Devon is the daughter of Philip Hundley – a wealthy school donor, local doctor, and a man Sadie knows all too well. And Sadie can’t help remembering the last time she saw Devon – and heard her whisper something Sadie’s been trying ever since to forget…
A 2020 top new release, The Silent Daughter is domestic suspense at its best: a twisty page-turner about family secrets and dangerous lies for fans of Diane Chamberlain, Liane Moriarty, and Adele Parks.

I had no intention of reading this book in virtually one sitting (I did take time out to eat dinner), but the second time I picked it up, I could not make myself put it down. And that’s despite the fact that it was getting late and I had a meeting this morning. The story, unraveling bit by bit, led to several big twists that surprised even this jaded mystery reader. I recommend The Silent Sister and intend to read others of this author’s work.
Kept my interest completely. Lots of twists and turns.
Fiona and Sadie grew up as best friends and went to a boarding school together. But the haves and the have nots at the school drew a wedge between the girls. Two girls making choices and one ends up dead. Sadie always spent her time at Fiona’s home, Jan made her feel welcome and loved. Her own mom seemed distant and apathetic.
Years later, Sadie is back and living with Jan after losing her job at the old boarding school, Horton college. Sadie goes over her time at the school as a student and as a teacher and the whispers, secrets, jealousies that she lived with in the past as a teenager and now.
Meet Phillip and Angela and the daughters Lucy and Devon . The wealthy with both daughters at the school as students of Sadie. You’ll meet Simone and Ned, two instructors at Horton. And all of the above have their own agendas and secrets.
This is a case of the past and present colliding in an atmospheric book about families. And how hard on ourselves and each other. Expectations are different than reality and the haves still have the upper hand over the have nots. Egos are damaged and people use their power and positions but sometimes the truth comes out….after all a missing daughter at a ritzy private school is hard to keep quiet. A quiet read that pulls you in to their world.
Greta read, loved it!
Great book a must read!!
For all the wonderful ratings, I just couldn’t get into this book. It took forever to get to the meat of the story. Dancing all around. Didn’t hold my attention
This book has a story within a story withing a story and see if you can figure it out.
could not put it down, just had to keep on reading until i finished it,
This book had circumstances that some could relate too, which made me realize how some reacted to the realism of tragic events. I got impatient in wanting the main character to hurry up with why she felt the way she did and finally the truth started to come out bit by bit. Then all hell broke loose and it was a page turner with a good ending.
I did not finish this book and regretted starting to read it.
I thought the book was just okay. I found it hard to finish and honestly, there really was no build up to anything. There were a few plot twists but they seemed unrealistic and more of an afterthought.
This book had many twists and turns that I did not expect. Enjoyed it very much.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys psychological suspense books. This one had me puzzled to the very end. I thought the heroine was a little naive in dealing with her married lover. Thats why I gave it a rating of 4. In real life, not too many people could be that clueless.
It was okay. There were just SO many plot twists it made it too unrealistic and almost annoying. Would have been a much better book if it were just a bit simpler.
simply a great book that I read in 2 days…..and, yes a page turner and recommended to 3 friend
A good “Does anyone really know anyone??? Why they act or do what they do??? How they interpret you by your actions and statements. I don’t know that I would say “gripping”, but it was a good read. The writing style, although it had a nice flow, was a bit unusual. The book was captivating in that although I wasn’t particularly “enjoying” the “story” I couldn’t put the book down. Kind of like when one sees a heart wrenching movie and when asked if it was good … it’s like, I cried my eyes out … how do I associate the word “good” with that. So this was captivating and yes there were twists and turns. I really liked the Letter From the Author and the Acknowledgements at the end of the book. They were sweet and not the typical sort of boiler plate pieces. But, too, they were so different from the writing style of the book it was almost like they were written by someone else. And maybe the author becomes someone else when writing. Go ahead and read . . .
This was a little hard for me to get into in the beginning, but then all the twists and turns and unexpected things started happening and I couldn’t put it down. Loved it.
What a tale of secrets, both family and community. It was fascinating to see them exposed one at a time, while the pieces fell into place. Worth the read.
I tried, but couldn’t get into it.
Held my interest through the entire book
