THE FIRST NOVEL IN THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING JANE HAWK SERIES Meet Jane Hawk—a remarkable new heroine certain to become an icon of suspense. “This gripping thriller grabs readers from the first few pages and sweeps them along to the rousing finale.”—Booklist “I very much need to be dead.”These are the chilling words left behind by a man who had everything to live for—but took his own life. … behind by a man who had everything to live for—but took his own life. In the aftermath, his widow, Jane Hawk, does what all her grief, fear, and fury demand: find the truth, no matter what.
People of talent and accomplishment, people admired and happy and sound of mind, have been committing suicide in surprising numbers. When Jane seeks to learn why, she becomes the most-wanted fugitive in America. Her powerful enemies are protecting a secret so important—so terrifying—that they will exterminate anyone in their way.
But all their power and viciousness may not be enough to stop a woman as clever as they are cold-blooded, as relentless as they are ruthless—and who is driven by a righteous rage they can never comprehend. Because it is born of love.
Don’t miss any of Dean Koontz’s gripping Jane Hawk thrillers:
THE SILENT CORNER • THE WHISPERING ROOM • THE CROOKED STAIRCASE • THE FORBIDDEN DOOR • THE NIGHT WINDOW
Praise for The Silent Corner
“Gripping . . . The paranoia and mystery increase as the story unfolds. . . . Koontz has created [a] wonderful character in Jane Hawk. . . . Koontz rocks it again.”—Associated Press
“In this era of stingy text-message prose, Mr. Koontz is practically Shakespeare. . . . The Silent Corner brims with both action and emotion.”—Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
“The Silent Corner is vintage Dean Koontz: paranoia-fueled suspense . . . sleek and highly realized action, developed characters, and more twists and turns than any two ordinary novels combined. . . . As relevant to current events as it is audacious . . . amongst Dean Koontz’s finest contemporary work.”—Mystery Scene
“A proven specialist in action scenes, Koontz pulls off some doozies here. . . . The book is full of neat touches. . . . And the prose, as always in a Koontz novel, is first-rate. Perhaps Koontz’s leanest, meanest thriller, this initial entry in a new series introduces a smart, appealing heroine who can outthink as well as outshoot the baddest of bad dudes.”—Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

Dean Koontz has become my very favorite author! And this series is, I think, top-drawer, even in a Koonts-only collection! His character development and dialog shines throughout his books, and this one elevates even that. By all means, if you’ve read Koontz’s work before, and enjoyed it then, you can’t go wrong with this one. Read them in order, though – there’s a definite sequence to it.
As with all of Dean Koontz’ work, this book moves fast and furious. I couldn’t put it down. A little over the top with the conspiracy theory, but this is fiction after all! This is a really good read.
I feel it’s a novel that a movie would follow. Loved it when Dougal came in. He became my favorite in his short but memorable moments. Looking forward to the next one hoping he is in the print more.
I enjoyed his other books more.
Just enough sci-fi to make it interesting. Love the characters. Already bought the next one in the series.
The story is well written; however, it is a little darker than I like, and int continues into at least three sequels. It would have been better to have a quicker resolution
Typical Dean Koontz. I had read so many of his books that I needed a break. After about 2 years away from his storytelling, this Kindle bargain caught my eye. As usual, I sped through to the finish.
Koontz never disappoints
a typical fascinating and fast moving book by Koontz john quincy
Jane Hawk is my new favorite character! I thought that Odd Thomas would forever be my favorite Dean Koontz character, but Jane has won this race. I’m flying though this series now with book number 4 coming out so very soon.
Thriller with sci-fi elements
First in series.
Like other Koontz series, you will not find yourself annoyed at the end because you have to read the next book in order to know what happened.
Meant for mature audiences.
Plot (no spoilers):
Too many suicides have happened involving people who were just not suicidal. Our main character, an FBI agent on bereavement leave, goes undercover – off the grid even from the FBI – to find answers.
Has someone found a way to control others? Why?
Violence
Some strong language – but not overdone as is true for all of Koontz’s books.
Psychological thriller
Sexual situations and references but no detail
If you like Dean Koontz novels, you’ll like this one.
Recommended.
Great book. Waiting for series.
Great read. The concept is slightly unnerving. Could see this actually happening.
Giving us a glimpse into what’s happening-even if we don’t want to know about it.
Intriging
Very good read
Very disappointed in this book, long read and no ending, looks like you have to read all 4 books to get the story completed. I have been a fan of Dean Koontz for a great many years and was very disappointed in this one. Sorry, not for me
Really good…
Classic Koontz! Very, very disturbing. While I can wholeheartedly recommend this book, you read it at your own mental risk!
Can’t wait to get started on the next in the series!
