A serial murderer known only by a grotesquely apt nickname–Buffalo Bill–is stalking women. He has a purpose, but no one can fathom it, for the bodies are discovered in different states. Clarice Starling, a young trainee at the FBI Academy, is surprised to be summoned by Jack Crawford, chief of the Bureau’s Behavioral Science section. Her assignment: to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter–Hannibal … the Cannibal–who is kept under close watch in the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.
Dr. Lecter is a former psychiatrist with a grisly history, unusual tastes, and an intense curiosity about the darker corners of the mind. His intimate understanding of the killer and of Clarice herself form the core of Thomas Harris’ The Silence of the Lambs–and ingenious, masterfully written book and an unforgettable classic of suspense fiction.

I would suggest reading Red Dragon first as it is the book that introduced Hannibal Lector. This book is a fast read as you will be unable to put it down until you finish it.
Great read. Still as good today as it was when I read it the first time.
One of the best. A classic must read.
“You don’t know what pain is.” Enough said.
Great book, while the movie was good and pretty much adhered to the book, the book was so much better!
Not Red Dragon but very, very good.
The suspense builds throughout the story. The characters are engrossingly fllawed human beings. Frighteningly realistic enough to haunt your dreams.
This book scared the heck out of me.
All books in this series are great.
One of the best reads and also one of the most memorable villains.
Mind-bendingly original with terrific characters. You have to wonder about the thin line of humanity that separates evil from ‘us’………
Just after Red Dragon, in which Hannibal Lecter is introduced to the world, Thomas Harris gave the world Silence of the Lambs. As the movie expanded awareness, more people read this chilling, brilliant novel. Harris raises thriller into literary heights even as he offers readers intense suspense, appalling scenes of hair-raising gore, and insights into all manner of people, good and bad. This is the book that started it all, and well worth reading. The best of its kind. Strongly recommended. / Gene Stewart
I read this many years ago along with “The Red Dragon” great reads. I wish there were more.
The best book Thomas Harris ever wrote. the movie was very good but the book has the details that you do not ever see on the screen. Read the book and forget everything else.
Thomas Harris creates one of the most memorable fiction horror characters ever written. This novel is bone chilling because of the research that went behind the writing.
Great writer, weaves a thriller you can’t put down.
I really like Hannibal Lechter and his moral code.
One of the great thrillers of all time!
Scary read with unpredictable ending.
I have read all the books in this line and liked them all. I have also seen the movie but stuff is left out so read the book.
