In Sunnyside, Texas, Jennifer Cloud is an assistant purchasing manager for an upscale shoe store. But after her boss is arrested, she’s forced to find work elsewhere and ends up in her brother’s chiropractic office, where she discovers a hidden passion for helping others. However, when she receives an unexpected birthday gift from her aunt that transports her back in time to 1568 Scotland, she … Scotland, she meets a dashing Scottish outlaw who introduces her to a world of time-traveling keys. But on a return trip to the past, Jennifer’s key is stolen by a villainous band of time travelers who will stop at nothing to collect all of the keys for themselves. When Jennifer attempts to retrieve the key and sees her cousin kidnapped, she enlists a dysfunctional cast of characters—including a few interested suitors—to help her find the key and rescue her cousin.
Inspired by the works of Janet Evanovich and Beth Ciotta and carefully researched, The Shoes Come First is a lighthearted, historical fantasy filled with time travel, suspense, and romance that’s sure to please.

Took a long time to get into it.
Couldn’t read more than a few chapters of this. Boring boring boring. Maybe it improves, but not going to waste time slogging through dreck to find a questionable pearl.
Loved it! More please.
loved this book. characters were great, picture building was great, a great read
Sadly obsessed with fashion, name-dropping, and status. Could not get past all the “Ferrari” this and brand-name that, and discussions of beauty. Maybe there’s a story in there somewhere.
Enjoyable book I could read some more. Characters are enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this book, it was light and fun and I can really picture the characters,l look forward to a second book
I am mad at myself for making myself read the whole book. It was just bad AND disappointing. Can’t that be an option for stars? Ugh, guys. Not only was the world building shaky (at best), the characters was bland and annoying. The writing was kind of racist and fed on stereotypes, at the best of times. There was even a epithet thrown in there that they tried to pass off as comedic relief. Gross.
Enjoyed the time travel and how the author had each character travel back in time. I thought it was a very original idea.
A different take on time travel! Very fun!
There was a lot of fun to this book but the storyline jumped around to much for my tastes.
Fun, light reading. I want to read future books in this series.
Really good read, a good beach or pool book. I read it then immediately bought book 2! Very entertaining.
just an easy fun read for a weekend, or a night of no t v
Love time travel and wouldn’t mind being able to do this. Don’t know about travelling in an outhouse though.
Badly needed copy edits.
Really fun read. Not what I was expecting. Would definitely read more in the series!
I bought it because of Janet Evanovich. I expected a whole lot more laughs, etc.
I did laugh out loud
