Helva had been born human, but only her brain had been saved—saved to be schooled, programmed, and implanted into the sleek titanium body of an intergalactic scout ship. But first she had to choose a human partner—male or female—to share her exhilirating excapades in space! Her life was to be rich and rewarding . . . resplendent with daring adventures and endless excitement, beyond the wildest … wildest dreams of mere mortals.
Gifted with the voice of an angel and being virtually indestructable, Helva XH-834 antipitated a sublime immortality.
Then one day she fell in love!

I like the imaginative story that entertains and also makes you think. The story was written decades ago and we are now moving towards AI, driver-lesss cars and so on. Anne McCaffery is an excellent storyteller.
Love Anne Mccaffrey!
Science fiction at its most lyrical and original
Excellent story.
I enjoy Ann McCaffrey’s writing. I really enjoy her style of writing and most of her stories, but have not read them all.
A great set-up, but somehow it became boring.
I loved this book when I first read it 30 plus years ago and still love it now! My “radical disability” personality persona takes a bit of umbrage about the description of the child who became the “brain” of a starship, but quite frankly, I don’t give a D#*%.
I liked it.
Have read it several times. Love it more with each read.
It’s always been a favorite I have read it more than a few times. I feel certain you will enjoy.
Great book for middle school aged people interested in sci-fi, human technology interaction.
Read it many years ago. Good light sci-fi that was entertaining and a nice bit of escape from the day.
I highly recommend this story and any other book by Anne McCaffrey who is so amazingly talented at creating wonderfully unique worlds to explore and characters to cherish!
A classic
I have re-read this book several times over the last 30 years and would recommend it to anyone.
Another great read by a great author
If it’s written by Anne McCaffery it’s going to be great. A true talent, sorely missed.
I first read this many years ago and the all the others in the series. I loved it so much i needed to have a copy on my kindle.
A great read.
