From the New York Times bestselling author of Me Before You and One Plus One, in an earlier work available in the U.S. for the first time, a post-WWII story of the war brides who crossed the seas by the thousands to face their unknown futures1946. World War II has ended and all over the world, young women are beginning to fulfill the promises made to the men they wed in wartime. In Sydney, … they wed in wartime.
In Sydney, Australia, four women join 650 other war brides on an extraordinary voyage to England—aboard HMS Victoria, which still carries not just arms and aircraft but a thousand naval officers. Rules are strictly enforced, from the aircraft carrier’s captain down to the lowliest young deckhand. But the men and the brides will find their lives intertwined despite the Navy’s ironclad sanctions. And for Frances Mackenzie, the complicated young woman whose past comes back to haunt her far from home, the journey will change her life in ways she never could have predicted—forever.

Not her best but still very good
Great historical fiction on a topic I wasn’t familiar with.
Very good historical fiction
A little long, but once engaged keeps you going.
This was a great story that was sometimes clumsily executed. It had a lot of potential but sometimes fell flat on the page. Many of the characters did not feel fully realized/developed. I did ultimately enjoy it, but it was a good or okay read–not a great one.
Really unique story of WWII that I hadn’t heard about.
I love books by this author but this one fell a bit short of her normal standard for me. I’m glad I read it but usually I’m much more into the read.
It was pretty good. Kept me interest but very slow in parts.
Can’t really remember much but I know I liked ut
Very enjoyable book. Easy read
I thought it was entertaining and meaningful. Good characters and easy to read. Pretty realistic.
Loved this book, based on fact (war brides).
Read one And you will be hooked and look ing for more
My favourite from Moyes so far! I was so intrigued by these women giving up all that they knew to travel to the other side of the world, to be with men they had married in haste. I enjoyed both the main and minor characters and the personal struggles they faced. I’d be really pleased to see this made into a movie.
An epic read, perfect for the long weekend.
Loved the characters, it was a page turner, my kind of book
Very interesting historical ficyion
Loved everything about it
For fans of beach reads this is a must. For serious readers, not..
Loved this – a great story set at a time about which I knew nothing before I read this!
