Jack Torrance’s new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. As the off-season caretaker at the atmospheric old hotel, he’ll have plenty of time to spend reconnecting with his family and working on his writing. But as the harsh winter weather sets in, the idyllic location feels ever more remote… and more sinister. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible … forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five year old.

I am not a fan of horror or anything bloody or gory, so I planned to ‘skim-read’ through and just get a feel for the book opposed to a concentrated read. Well best laid plans and all that don’t always go as imagined and I ended up reading the whole book from front to cover.
I was pleasantly surprised for the Shining book is a lot meatier than …
It’s Stephen King. What more can I say?
A truly scary story, by the master of scary stories at his best. The book and the movie (though slightly different) make an unmatched one-two punch.
OMGoodness! This is a classic & for good reason. One of Stephen King’s best efforts.
This is one of my all-time favorite Stephen King books. I’ve read it three times and I’ve seen the movie. The book is wayyy better. Very creepy and chilling! No doubt I’ll read it again one of these days. I loved it!!!
I read this in the 70s and really think it’s one of King’s best.
A very interesting novel especially the telepathy stuff.
Its so Interesting. I LOVE IT!!
it sucks
This book and other books by Stephen King are well written, suspenseful, entertaining thrillers that you can’t put down. King is renowned, one of my favorite authors and one of my inspirations as a writer. Check out his work if you haven’t already!
This was quite a page turner but I don’t want to spoil anything for you enjoy reading it
It’s a ghost story, an edge of your seat thriller, and written by Stephen King. Is there anything else worth mentioning? I love it.
This is a case of a good book that had a great movie made from it. I’m referring to the original Kubrick version. They are quite different from each other. In fact, I would almost say that in the book, the hotel is an actual character, but in the movie, it’s just a haunted place. The later mini-series is closer to the book, but not as compelling …
I’ve recently read this again, and to-date it’s the only Stephen King Novel I’ve read. Don’t ask me why because I don’t know (although it’s definitely nothing to do with literary snobbery or any preconceived notions). I intend to read a few more of King’s novels, as I thoroughly enjoyed The Shining, and if you don’t believe me then ask my …
Okay, so most of you have read THE SHINING I am making my way through StephenKing’s older works. Just loved it.
This is my all time favorite book! I have read it again and again (I’m not the type of person to read the same book twice) and will continue to do so the rest of my life. This is an absolute MUST READ
Excellent Stephen King novel. Maybe his best
It was amazing!! The suspense is built from the very first page. With great characters and amazing story telling, Stephen King has created the most thrilling book yet! I can’t wait to hear what happens next!
You already know how good this is. If I were SK I’d want to explore the empty hotel with new victims in a sequel. I haven’t read Doctor Sleep yet…looks like a focus on Danny as an adult.
Among the best horror novels of all time.
