A DELIGHTFULLY REALISTIC GLIMPSE OF ROMANCE IN A SMALL TOWN!!!

My Rating: 4.5 Delightfully Entertaining Stars*****
This was my first time reading the work of Jackie Weger, but I can say with utmost certainty that it won’t be my last! I loved The Sheriff’s Woman! It was a lovely read and such a breath of fresh air. It was so refreshing to read a book in which the author took her time developing the characters, allowing the reader to truly get to know them and not just the hero and heroine, but also the entire very eclectic cast of ensemble players included in this delightfully realistic and heartwarming small-town romance. And I should know all about small towns since I was born and raised in one exactly like Hickory Oak, Arkansas where everyone knew everyone, along with all their personal business. lol… But just like the heroine and hero, recently widowed schoolteacher and now struggling single mother Rachael Cameron and Lackawanna County Sheriff Garrett Stark, I learned to appreciate the many benefits of having friends and neighbors who always answered the call for help, without ever being asked, because that’s just the way it works in small towns. I was immediately smitten with Hickory Oak’s most sought-after bachelor, swoony former Marine Garrett Stark. And the beautiful, headstrong, independent, and supremely stubborn Rachael Cameron was an absolute hoot! At first, Garrett and Rachael appeared to have nothing in common, except an extreme dislike for the other, complicated by an unexplainable, very unwelcome, yet undeniable attraction, especially since Rachael blamed Garrett for her husband’s suicide six months earlier. But we all know, the heart wants what the heart wants, no matter what our head tells us, and no matter how much they tried to deny, ignore, or fight it, Garrett Stark and Rachael Cameron wanted each other. There’s no nail-biting suspense, life-threatening danger, or heart-pounding action in this story unless, of course, you count trying to deal with a pack of feral dogs, three precocious children under the age of seven, as well as a community of colorful locals always ready to serve up helpful yet sometimes questionable advice as hazardous. But if you enjoy a well-written, enemies to lovers trope filled to the brim with heart, agonizing angst, sweet heat, an abundance of humor, and a menagerie of unforgettable characters, then The Sheriff’s Woman is definitely worth your time.
Did I like this book? No, I loved it! If I loved it so much, then why only 4 stars? Actually, my rating is 4.5 stars. I subtracted a half star for the minor mistakes and pesky little typos that were missed in the final edit. Nothing that actually distracted me from the story but as an English major, I simply couldn’t ignore them. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Would I recommend this book? You bet, and I am for anyone who loves a heartwarming, realistic romance with a healthy measure of small-town drama, a heaping helping of old-fashioned angst, a generous splash of humor, and a little sweet heat. I laughed, I cried, and I laughed some more but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and well entertained. And fyi, there was no profanity or explicit sex so it’s safe for everyone. And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
A sweet story. A few heart-wrenching moments. And a wonderful happy-ever-after ending. Perfect book to curl up on the couch with!
Jackie Weger never disappoints! The Sheriff’s Woman is an unpredictable, heart-warming romance. I enjoyed watching two stubborn people fall in love. The heroine, a young widow determined to raise her children and be self-sufficient faces off against a man who wants to ride in and rescue her (whether she wants him or not). This book is one that readers of all ages will enjoy!
I love the Ms. Weger’s voice and her way of writing characters. I always come away from her stories feeling great and glad I read it.
This touching, at times heartbreaking story centers around Rachel Cameron and Garrett Stark.
Rachel is a widow with three kids, one that has stopped talking since her daddy’s death, a boy that feels the weight of being “the man of the family” and a nine year old who challenges everyone and everything. Though Rachel is living in the country in her family’s homestead, the house is falling apart, they have little money and her former mother-in-law has done everything she can to block any chances of Rachel going back to teaching.
Garrett is the local sheriff. A man that Rachel blames for her husband’s death. He is also a man that wants to help Rachel have an easier life. Also the man that has been fascinated with her since HS.
As we visit with all of them, meet the other characters and the ups and downs of their lives, we realize that as complicated as life is, finding love and gaining new friends is what life is all about.
Best book I’ve read in quite awhile. Every twist and turn had me wanting to just know these people and live in this area. My best friend lives in Arkansas and it’s so cool to have a story from her areas. Read it if you need hope!
An enjoyable sweet story. A realistic storyline with wonderful characters.
Great storyline with characters I related to so much. Loved reading through their story!
Great story of young widow with three children. Embarrassed and hiding out since her dead husband was a crook and liar, she has to sell house, pay his debts to save face and move to her dead parents’ cabin in the Arkansas woods. Alone, broke and scared, town sheriff is attracted to her plight as well as her beauty. Story moves quickly due to snappy dialogue among town characters, children while sheriff makes his move. Laugh, applaud when widow’s bitter mother-in-law gets her due. All is well that finally ends well. Good laugh, great characters and satisfying ending.
Living in Australia I found the language, way of talking , fascinating.
So different to here as is much of your way of life. I found the authors summary of herself painfully honest in reference to her family.
I really enjoyed book, would have liked a bit more sex….poor sheriff sure was suffering!
Wonderful story! This book is more than one drama then a happily ever after. This story pulls out a wish for a simpler way of life. When life is tough, many of us circle the wagons and prepare. This is what the heroine does yet the outside intrudes in a good way. I wish I could go back and take my children camping and teach them about nature, growing food and making a way that works without internet! This is a fabulous book, written with plain language that gets the point across. I loved it so much I went out and bought another! That one is terrific as well! Well written. Great details. I can envisioned the mountain!
A very enjoyable read
Sweet story with no “totally unrealistic” situations, and no explicit sex scenes.
Great read with fantastic characters !
There was a little too much therapy. The book was cute but, I hate when all the characters except one are nice. I liked the concept and the realistic details of down home living. I didn’t like that she changed her whole life. And the rush was just irritating. I know when it’s right, it’s right but still a month from enemies to husband and wife is a little much.
like a cool refreshing drink on a hot summer day. Thanks
Extremely long book. And it’s disjointed and flows weird. I kept forgetting that it was set in modern times. And the fact that they fell in love but hardly saw each other was hard to process. Even the HEA didn’t really fit the rest of the story.
Great story. A standalone with an HEA! Sometimes Garrett drove me crazy cause he acted like he was still in the Marines and giving orders. A very, very great caring guy just took a lot for granted. He had always liked Rachel and wanted to make a move but went into the Maines. When he came home on leave Rachel was married to a jerk of a guy with a young boy. He knew he lost out. Garrett became the Sheriff when he got home from 18 years in the Marines. Clive, Rachel’s husband was a bad guy and ended up in jail. Clive killed himself and Rachel blamed Garrett. Garrett tried helping Rachel as much as possible. A great story!!!
Really enjoyed the book was a easy read.
This is such a wonderful, sweet , heart warming love story. I love the part that the children play in the story! It was an easy read, so it was relaxing. Please write more!.
