Gert Dooley can shoot the tail feathers off a jay at a hundred yards, but she wants rancher Ethan Chapman to see she’s more than a crack shot with a firearm. When the sheriff of Fergus, Idaho is murdered, Ethan is named his replacement. The women in town are scared to think a murderer is loose among them, so Gert forms the Ladies’ Shooting Club to teach them how to protect themselves, their … homes, and their families.
Ethan didn’t ask to be named sheriff, but he accepts the position and takes on the investigation of the former lawman’s mysterious death. Now he’s between a rock and a hard place—being pressured by the town’s women to restore order and safety to Fergus, and being pressured by the men who insist Ethan disband the upstart Ladies’ Shooting Club.
Another murder sends Ethan to Gert and her ladies for help in the investigation. But will the Ladies’ Shooting Club unmask the murderer before he strikes again? This e-book includes discussion questions for groups.

An unconventional heroine and a full town of great characters!
Loved the book, plus the 2nd and 3rd.
This was a great book to read. It shows a woman teaching other women how to shoot a gun and protect themselves. It showed how God can work through different people and circumstances.
I loved being able to get to know all the characters. And I loved the surprise ending.
Great story about community building and acceptance, powerful women and friendship, as well as a bit of romance.
I enjoyed this book, the first I’ve read by this author. The setting is a struggling small town in frontier country, late 1800’s. The town is stunned by a series of attacks and murders. They haven’t been too unified in the past, but they learn some things about community in this crisis.
This was mildly entertaining, a good book for the pandemic as it was an easy read. Just enough to take your mind off your problems but not enough to get too involved.
Fun book to read.
Very good book
Romance and mystery! I plan to read more from this author.
I loved the way the women worked together and found that even though they came from different sides of life, they all had value and could make a difference to their community. The fact that they solved the murder before the men did was even better.
Christian book with romance and suspense.
Thought it was a great way to build a strong female character
This book shows how women could have affected town politics in the Wild West
Couldn’t put it down. Really liked this depiction of strong women.
I enjoyed the strong women.
The story of a community working together for the good of all.
This was a light, enjoyable read. If you want a relaxing historical fiction to read, this would be a good one.
FUN book
