Gabe Talmadge languished in prison for ten years, convicted of a horrible crime. Now free, he’s unable to find work in the midst of the Great Depression. In desperation, he returns home to Ransom, Idaho, hoping his uncaring father will give him food and shelter, if not love. But the prodigal isn’t welcomed home. Hudson Talmadge, who virtually owns the town, despises his son as much as ever, and … and Gabe is as powerless as an adult as he was as a child to win his father’s approval.
Hungry and hopeless, Gabe is rescued by the owner of a sheep ranch south of Ransom. Incredibly, Akira Macauley gives him a place to live and work to do. More than that, she gives him hope that he can receive forgiveness of his past – and perhaps even love. But when tragedy strikes Ransom once again and Gabe’s life begins to unravel, he must either sink into an abyss of hopelessness or cling to a faith, hope, and love stronger than any he has ever known.

Feel good book.
An inspiring read! I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of this book!
Thoroughly enjoyed it. A wonderful story of forgiveness and Gods love
This is a wonderful story of the love and forgiveness of God, set in an exciting, easy to read form that keeps you turning the pages to find out what happens next.
I highly recommend it and pray that many might accept Christ as a result of their reading!! Also, Christians will want to know God on a more personal level and be encouraged to spend time listening to His voice instead of just praying and hurrying on their way!!
LOVED this book! I had not read anything by Robin Lee Hatcher before this book, so I wasn’t sure if I would like it. I didn’t like it, I loved it! Gabe’s past is still haunting him and he doesn’t feel like there’s any way God cares for him, especially considering how his own earthly father has treated him. Gabe is the prodigal come home, not to a corrupt earthly father, but to a loving and compassionate heavenly Father. I loved being allowed to see into his heart as he embarked on the journey to letting God welcome him home and learned to hear the gentle, loving voice of God for himself. There are so many wonderful truths that I think we all need to be reminded of in this book involving just how much God loves and forgives us and how wonderfully trustworthy He is. Akira was a sweet character and watching her steadfastly listen to the Savior and act in obedience was a great testimony of what God can do through us when we listen and obey. Gabe and Akira together are precious and I loved seeing them fall in love and grow in their love for each other. Wonderful book!
