Gabe Talmadge languished in prison for ten years, convicted of a horrible crime. Now free, he’s unable to find work in the midst of the Great Depression. In desperation, he returns home to Ransom, Idaho, hoping his uncaring father will give him food and shelter, if not love. But the prodigal isn’t welcomed home. Hudson Talmadge, who virtually owns the town, despises his son as much as ever, and … and Gabe is as powerless as an adult as he was as a child to win his father’s approval.
Hungry and hopeless, Gabe is rescued by the owner of a sheep ranch south of Ransom. Incredibly, Akira Macauley gives him a place to live and work to do. More than that, she gives him hope that he can receive forgiveness of his past – and perhaps even love. But when tragedy strikes Ransom once again and Gabe’s life begins to unravel, he must either sink into an abyss of hopelessness or cling to a faith, hope, and love stronger than any he has ever known.

The woman has amazing faith!
Realistic characters, entertaining story line. Clean. I’d like to read more from this author.
This was a wonderful Christian romance I highly recommend it
Very likable – and exceedingly unlikable characters, which made the plot interesting and enjoyable.
There was a lot about this book that was unexpected. For me at least, it involved some real-world personal tragedies that had to be overcome by both of the main characters. I thought the author handled their situations very well without revealing too much too quickly.
I really like the character development, using a life filled with bumps and troubles. I also like the author’s use of Scripture to help form the character’s world view. Very well balanced.
This was a very good book. Very spiritual. I like books that share the Bible. I enjoyed reading it.
Wonderful book. Such a good story line. Keeps your interest all the way through.
Absolutely loved this story. So redemptive and beautiful of how God loves and forgives and has amazing plans for each of us.
Really enjoyed this book; very well written. Inspirational and uplifting.
The son returned home from being in jail and the abusive father made the son’
s life miserable. Love did prevail.
Really enjoyed the story. About a man accused of murder and his life.
I enjoy reading about historical times and this book took me there, literally! I could feel the emotions in the characters. The author took me to that little town in the hills with vivid descriptions. All the scripture references in the story led their lives to peaceful understanding and forgiveness. I could NOT put this book down!
Wonderful story
I hated to put this book down when something else needed to be done. I could hardly wait to start reading again. Great read!
Inspiring story of faith, love and endurance and forgiveness.
A page turner. I would recommend this book and author!
I really enjoyed this book and the characters. It was a little more intense than some of the other books I have been reading. But I really enjoyed it.
It was wonderfully entertaining, the inspirational type of book I love to read.
I would have given it a 5, but the ending seemed rushed and not fully developed.
This book deals with the issue of God why are you allowing this to happen to me. In the end of the book we kiscover the answer.
