Gabe Talmadge languished in prison for ten years, convicted of a horrible crime. Now free, he’s unable to find work in the midst of the Great Depression. In desperation, he returns home to Ransom, Idaho, hoping his uncaring father will give him food and shelter, if not love. But the prodigal isn’t welcomed home. Hudson Talmadge, who virtually owns the town, despises his son as much as ever, and … and Gabe is as powerless as an adult as he was as a child to win his father’s approval.
Hungry and hopeless, Gabe is rescued by the owner of a sheep ranch south of Ransom. Incredibly, Akira Macauley gives him a place to live and work to do. More than that, she gives him hope that he can receive forgiveness of his past – and perhaps even love. But when tragedy strikes Ransom once again and Gabe’s life begins to unravel, he must either sink into an abyss of hopelessness or cling to a faith, hope, and love stronger than any he has ever known.

I liked it a lot. Made me feel good. Interesting.
Great inspirational read
A thoroughly enjoyable story with a strong Christian message of faith and forgiveness. Akira has taken over a sheep farm after the death of her grandfather. Hudson wants her land and plans to have it any way he can get it. Gabriel is his son, convicted and jailed for his brother’s murder. There’s several other interesting characters that add to the enjoyment of the story. I really enjoyed the Christian message and how it plays out among the characters.
Loved this book, I pray there will be more similar books to come!!!
Gabe Talmadege spent ten years in jail for the murder of his brother. He comes back to his hometown of Ransom, Idaho hoping his father, Hudson will help him with a job. Hudson owns most of the town and it is during the Great Depression. When Gabe discovers his father still hates him he wanders onto a sheep ranch. The owner, Akira Macauley gives him a job and a chance for a new life. Akira shows Gabe the love of Jesus even as his father, Hudson tries to destroy Gabe. This is a truly inspiring story with suspense and surprises.
Robin Lee Hatcher did a wonderful job of writing this book. It has a lot of scriptures, and I like that. I appreciate that very much. It was a wonderful book to read!
Enjoyed it very much.
It inspired me and reminds me that even in my darkest hour ; God is always with me. When I make mistakes , God always is there for me and has my back.God bless and keep up the great work.
Excellent book showing the grace and mercy of a loving God
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book about second chances and God’s love for everyone. It’s set in Idaho during the Depression. It is historically accurate and a sweet story.
An enjoyable read
One of the best I have read by Robin Hatcher…LOVED it
A very poignant story about forgiveness when the prodigal son returns home. You will find yourself experiencing the characters’ sorrow and joy. Sprinkled throughout is a message of hope and inspiration that is available to all who listen to the Shepherd’s voice. I enjoyed the storyline that was both emotional and entertaining and have become an enthusiastic fan of Author Robin Lee Hatcher.
And they live happily ever after….
I marked this book “Easy-to-read” not because of simplistic reading, but because it is so well-written that it captures you and just flows. Some books have so much detail that it is like an adjective contest. This one had just enough, but not too much laboring in description, that you could form your own visualizations of everything. This is my first Robin Lee Hatch book and I immediately fell in love with her writing. In pursuing a little bit about the author, I found that she lives in Meridian, ID and I do too!! I’m also a Believer, so I really respond to her clear references to the Bible and her faith.
its been a while since I finished it, but I remember, I didn’t want to put it down —-I just loved it. wish I could say more about it, but I’ve forgotten some of the story, except I know I loved it a lot;

The characters in this book come to life. The story brings in history we often push to the back of our minds and we forget how hard times were during the depression. The author grabs you into the story from the very beginning. Enjoyable book.
