At the end of a long and useful life, Penelope Keeling’s prized possession is The Shell Seekers, painted by her father, and symbolizing her unconventional life, from bohemian childhood to wartime romance. When her grown children learn their grandfather’s work is now worth a fortune, each has an idea as to what Penelope should do. But as she recalls the passions, tragedies, and secrets of her … of her life, she knows there is only one answer…and it lies in her heart, in this beloved Cornwall novel from Rosamunde Pilcher.

Would be a “safe” book to buy for your mother.
I read this a long time ago and remember thinking it was so good I wanted to read everything else this author wrote. Thank for reminding me about this one!! Time to reread it!
This is a book I have gone back to read a number of times. Long comfortable story of a family that the author allows us to get to know and develop over time. Nothing shocking or frightening, just a “cozy, curl up by the fire read” kind of book. Lovely. It’s a good companion to her other book, SEPTEMBER. The two books have characters who briefly …
Very good book.
Loved it missed it when I was finished.
I loved this book. I also saw the film version with Angela Lansbury and plan to read the book again and watch the movie again when I can find it. I have read most of Rosamond Pilcher’s books and have not read one that I didn’t like, but The Shell Seekers is probably my favorite.
Historical fiction with a back drop of WW11, can be written about over and over again and there is still so much to learn. Add to that Pilcher’s wonderful characters and you have an unforgettable page turner.
This is an adventure over several generations. A sense of belonging and generational influences that move the well developed characters through life.
One of my favorites!
Wonderful
A must-read. The movie is inspiring also.
Love her writing… you are there with the characters
Many times I think about how I felt while reading this book. I go back to her places in my head and I feel safe and cozy and satisfied. It’s beautiful when a story can have such a long-lasting positive effect.
Became totally absorbed in the drama. At 530 pages, you’ll be entertained for quite awhile. If you’re a fan of Maeve Benchey, you’ll enjoy this book.
My favorite of all times! Have re read it 3 times over the past years.
this book is a page tuner
Hard to put down.
This is a memorable story that I listened to one summer. Read it!
I really loved it!!!!
I love how the author writes. She makes you feel as if you are sipping tea with her, as you sit at her simple laced top table.
