At the end of a long and useful life, Penelope Keeling’s prized possession is The Shell Seekers, painted by her father, and symbolizing her unconventional life, from bohemian childhood to wartime romance. When her grown children learn their grandfather’s work is now worth a fortune, each has an idea as to what Penelope should do. But as she recalls the passions, tragedies, and secrets of her … of her life, she knows there is only one answer…and it lies in her heart, in this beloved Cornwall novel from Rosamunde Pilcher.

RIP to Ms. Pilcher. She was a remarkable talent and this is one of my favorite novels.
Wow – this was one of the best books I’ve read in ages. The characters were exceptionally well-drawn and realistic, and the setting was magnificently written. It’s the kind of book you can really disappear into. I didn’t want it to end. I could have continued reading about those characters forever. As far as quality women’s fiction goes, this …
Rosamunde Pilcher will always be with us through wonderful books like The Shell Seekers. I visited Cornwall for the first time when I read this book and was inspired to travel there and eventually set books of my own there. If you haven’t read The Shell Seekers, make yourself a cup of tea, find a cozy chair, and lose yourself in this unforgettable …
I loved this book the first time I read it and loved it the second time as well. Told from an older mothers perspective and is quite insightful.
Big, juicy family saga — need I say more? I assume everyone but me has read this book but if you haven’t you are in for a treat. Written in the ’80s it holds up very well today. I love stories about art and this one, about the daughter of a famous artist and the paintings he leaves behind, is right up my alley. The relationships between the main …
One of the best books I’ve ever read and led me to read many others by Ms. Pilcher. Seeing that she passed away today at the age of 94 reminded me of all the enjoyment she gave so many. I will be rereading some of her books, especially Shell Seekers, soon.
What a dream of a book – Rosamunde Pilcher is still one of my all time favorite authors!
Anything by Rosamunde Pilcher is a good read. Easy to read. Engrossing. Makes you want to cuddle under a blanket with a cup of tea. Characters are endearing.
Loved this story. Very sweet characters, heartwarming story.
Great reading for a book club. It has a lot of themes and great characterizations to dissect. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Read this many years ago at a critical moment in my life. I highly recommend it.
This was the first book by Rosamunde Pilcher I read, and I fell in love with it. Bohemian and artful, it feels like a story from a different world that I still got a sense of as a kid and have missed ever since. If you haven’t read it, try it. You might miss the world of RP too without knowing it.
Absolutely loved it!
Too much description of places sort of rambling I found my self turning pages to skip
Enjoyed the characters and imagery
This is probably among my five favorite novels. I love the main character and have visited in her home in my imagination several times. The settings are so vividly described that they almost become a character.
One of the best books I’ve ever read. A book I’ll keep in my library and read again!
I loved this book. I read it many years ago and it is still on my top 5 favorite books
One of the few books that I can read over and over again.
Excellent
I always enjoy her characters and story lines.
