An engaging suspense where past and present collide. Over twelve years ago young women who lived on the streets were being killed in New Orleans and now the killings have started again in Virginia. State trooper Riley Tatum is first on the scene and what she sees brings back fuzzy memories of 7 days she cannot remember from 12 years ago. Seems she was the only one that got away.
The mystery was good and the story had many pieces that didn’t seem to fit together at first but once they were all put together you could see how they all lead to the The Shark – the person responsible for so many deaths.
If you love a mystery and thriller then this is certainly up your alley. It was one of those books that kept me up too many nights or I had to plug my kindle in because the battery went down on me.
The story arc was one I had never come across before. The idea of it was one that left chills just to think about. The main characters I had an instant connection with and cared what happened to them. They were real to me. Just as the story was real to me.
The temptation to mention the storyline is very great yet to do so may also reveal too much and that I do not wish to do for that would ruin the journey for you into the world Mary created. It was very dark and surreal. But one that I found to be an awesome journey.
4 Stars.
Good mystery. I’ll definitely read more by this author.
THIS REVIEW IS FOR BOTH THE AUDIOBOOK AND EBOOK VERSIONS
Such a very interesting story with plenty of action and suspense. The characters are easy to follow and enjoy. The ending was good. The narration was nicely done. I recommend this book.
Fans of Allison Brennan will really like this series. It has the same feel: strong female lead, great mystery and just a touch of romance.
Riley Tatum is strong willed and stubborn, but she knows when she needs help. She has a great charisma with everyone she works with and a lot of respect for others. She had a rough childhood and uses her knowledge and experience to help other teenage runaways. She is also in the process of adopting one of the girls she helped and I really liked that. It made Riley more human. The man who saved her from the streets, Duke, and his wife are a godsend to troubled teens. He owns a restaurant and a sort of halfway house where the girls can work and live. I loved how he made them all go back to school though.
Former FBI agent Clay Bowman and his current employer, Shield Security, are a smart bunch of guys who are determined to solve a case from the past and believe that the current murders are connected. They worked well with Riley and the local police and get things done fast. Clay and Riley have a past and you can feel the tension between them, a good tension. You just want to tell them to kiss and get it over with. When they do… the reader is not disappointed.
The ending is fast paced and shocking. I was extremely saddened by part of it and felt really bad for Riley. I’m looking forward to continuing the series.
Not my favorite, but not the worst. My biggest problem is the relationship between the h/H is clunky. Too many leaps of faith and not enough foundation to make the connection between the two deep enough to believe it is a second chance romance (it’s a kinda second chance.)
I was drawn into this story quickly, finding the plot and characters very engaging. I was rooting for Bowman and Riley! As soon as this review is submitted, I’ll start on the next book in this series!
Really great story! Loved it!!! Without giving away any spoilers, towards the end, I did figure out two murders. LOVED the ending!!! Read the sneak peak into the next one and will be continuing on with the series.
