Clio might be a nymph living in exile among humans. And she might possess the rare ability to mimic any magic she sees. And she might have just seriously ticked off the most powerful family of spell weavers in the Underworld. But she is not in love with an incubus.Lyre is the rebellious black sheep of said weaver family, and he’s the only reason she survived her recent Underworld “vacation.” He’s … Underworld “vacation.” He’s also the sexiest thing she’s ever seen. Together, they have to track down a catastrophically dangerous magic—a magic he created, she sort of stole, and they both lost—before his family gets their hands on it. And that means fighting alongside him in a desperate attempt to avert complete disaster.
But she is definitely not in love with him. At least, she’s pretty sure she’s not.
Mostly sure.
Maybe sure?
…Crap.

(AUDIOBOOK)
This series features dual narrators, and both voices are fantastic. They make it easy to enjoy the story without too much distraction, but the characters are still distinct and recognizable.
Partly that’s thanks to Annette Marie’s brilliant characters who always have their own unique voices and styles. Clio and Lyre are becoming favourite characters, as AM’s characters always seem to.
In this one, I love how they constantly fight for each other even while denying their attraction. Wonderful slow burn romance.
Annette Marie is the proverbial pot of gold: an author who consistently delivers high quality well written, well edited, grammatically correct, original, entertaining stories. She invites you into her worlds and you never want to leave.
Every time I finish one of her books, my first thought is to read it again, to savor the characters, their development, and their relationships. The relationships developed in her books, both friendships and romantic, develop gradually, revealing layers and connections that strengthen over time. She creates people, not tropes.
Her plots are strong, complex, and keep you riveted. The worlds she creates are internally consistent and vividly imagined.
I realize this is a generic sort of review, but I plan to leave it for all her books. From the Red Winter series (mythic Japan); to the Steel & Stones series, including Piper and Ash, and the Lyre and Clio books; and the Guild Codex series, now including the Robin Piper demon-training: I have yet to find anything less than pure enjoyment, and great respect for her talent.
This book lived up to every expectation that I had after finishing The Night Realm. Every part of me wants to shout from the rooftops how very much I adore this author! She is such a gifted storyteller!
The world building is expanded upon when we get to experience another part of the Overworld. I really love all of the distinctions that Marie makes when describing the different realms. Each caste has its own architecture, landscape, and people and they all described so vividly. You can actually feel yourself walking in the main character’s shoes and experiencing the world right along with them.
The plot is so epically put together that it almost boggles my mind. There is usually room for nitpicking pieces of the plot no matter whom the author it, but that is not the case with Marie’s books. This one is no exception. She weaves the plot of this story like Lyre weaves his spells. Lyre is a master weaver, and so is Annette Marie. I love how seamless the plot is while being spellbinding at the same time. The reader just wants more, insatiably so.
This book is well rounded with the brilliant world-building, immaculate and compelling plot, and characters that you just want to immerse all of your senses with. Marie makes it so effortless to adore these characters. They feel so real. They have flaws and problems like everyone else, and at the same time the good parts about them shine through. The relationships that are forged are strong, a product of impeccable writing. The chemistry between the characters is tantalizing. It gives you all of the feels. So many that you are drowning in them. And on the plus side, those that have already read Marie’s Steel & Stone series already have a foundation for a few of these characters so the writing in this series brings them even more to life.
Overall, this series will captivate you! Annette Marie is a must read author. She is such a writing queen! I can’t recommend this series enough! If you are an urban fantasy fan that appreciates strong world-building, complex characters, and a riveting plot then read this. Read all of Marie’s books! They will sweep you off of your feet and you will beg for more.

Review:
The story is getting better and better and better. I wish clio and lyre would just go for it though. The suspense is killing me.
Bastian doing what he did is something I suspected from the beginning. I saw that coming but it still was an impact and it fit the story.
What is this book about:
This book pics up where the first one left. Clio and Lyre are on the run. They escaped the underworld but are fugitives. The underworld, especially the hades family and lyre’s family want them dead. They send one of their most dangerous assasins, a draconion named Ash to kill them.
Besides staying alive they have to find a way to get to the overworld, to get to Clio’s family. She still is upholding the idea that her brother Bastian isn’t doing anything wrong and the he was mislead as well.
While finding their way to the overworld Clio and Lyre are getting closer and closer. Clio is still trying to deny she liked Lyre, that she’s attracted to him. Lyre is trying to keep to himself, that he is just attracted to Clio because he’s an incubus and that he can’t be with her, that he’s incapable of falling in love.
Will they survive their trip to the overworld? Will they be able to stop a war with a strong and powerfull caste, Griffins, named the Ra family in the overworld. And will the Hades Family stop trying to kill lyre?
What did I love about this book:
I just love Lyre and Clio. They could be great together if they just go for it. They obviously have chemistry, and are attracted to each other. They compliment each other well.
I really like Ash. He is definitely more than meets the eye.
While I did saw that ending coming (not everything), I can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
Rating:
5 it was amazing stars
This is a good sequel to the first one and is better than the first even though it still moves a little sluggishly. The action was more exciting and made it a decent read. The inconsistencies of the characters could be a little off-putting but otherwise, I would recommend to fantasy fans.
