“This is a great beach read.” –USA TODAY Network. In the remote Four Corners region of Colorado, Special Agent Nathaniel Arkin, a disgraced former intelligence officer, investigates the killing of a bigoted, vitriolic preacher who was about to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. In processing the murder scene, Arkin thinks he recognizes the modus operandi of a shadowy group he … group he pursued and was on the verge of exposing years earlier, just before his abrupt fall from grace and exile from Washington, D.C. Rumored to be run by a self-righteous, lapsed Jesuit priest, it was a group Arkin long suspected of orchestrating an international assassination campaign targeting charismatic, fledgling fanatics—future Hitlers and bin Ladens—just as they emerged from obscurity, before they were capable of instigating mass murder. Reluctant, but aching for redemption, Arkin resumes the chase, setting in motion a chain of events that could lead to his salvation—or his doom. Along the way, he confronts a question that has troubled him for many years: What creates murderous fundamentalists and fanatics like Hitler and bin Laden in the first place?
This is the first of a two-book series.

This was a great read. I am familiar with southwestern Colorado and that made it even more enjoyable. The main character was intriguing and as the story developed, so did the mystery of what had happened with his employment and why it changed. Even better was what he did to solve the mystery. And now, I am truly looking forward to Book Two in this series!
Well done – hard to put down
New author. Early books by an author often show signs of them looking for their niche in the literary world. So it would seem with Shadow Priest. The characters are interestingly constructed, and there is realism within them – to a point. What is missing, in my view, is a realistic sense of who the character is that was built. Put another way, the character has a collection of characteristics (which actually make him interesting) but doesn’t behave true to the build. Still, the author shows good ability to move about the plot and environment and doesn’t make people do impossible things — often an early mistake that can turn a reader off to further endeavors.
So. A good start. Hopefully future works will incorporate some of these improvements. There is clearly promise here – just needs polish.
I really enjoyed this book. Too bad I have to buy the others in the series.
This was such an original take on an old theme. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I didn’t want to put it down. It had some surprises I didn’t see coming.
This book was an engaging fast read with well developed characters, fun dialogue and a lot of action. I enjoyed the relationships between the major characters and the fact that not all the major characters are “safe” is a nice twist.
Highly recommended.
This was a good book Characters beleiveable
I really like the story and the manner in which it was presented, easy to read, maintained my interest, and had a somewhat plausible plot.
The ONLY reason for withholding a higher rating is the ending. I totally understand wanting to hook a reader to continue a series, but this was such a blatant misuse of withholding a real conclusion that I will not buy the second book.
Great book; I can’t wait to read book 2.
This is a very good read and I look forward to the next book. Your are guessing but there is small clues as to what happens. Excellent.
Very enjoyable read. Appreciate the story line and the development of the characters. 4.5 stars, I wish it continued on a few more chapters!
So good I will need to read the rest in the series. Need to find the assassins.
Impatiently awaiting the sequel!
Great book. Great author. Looking forward to future reads of this author.
I really enjoyed the characters and their sense of humor. You get the sense of the small town and the guys who work closely together with their back and forth banter and busting eachother’s chops. I wanted a bit more of an ending but still enjoyed the book. More ending = one more star…would have been 5…
The book.was well written and researched
It was a good read.
Nice place page turner.Cant wait to read more of the series.
Very good read. The only downside is that this book is not complete and I cannot purchase the sequel on my Nook. Barnes and Noble does not have it.
