I love the way the author writes and his use of language
One of those books that is inspiring and wonderful to read again and again.
One of my all time favorite authors. Great prose.
A fine intellectual mystery in the tradition of “Foucault’s Pendulum” and “The Club Dumas,” “The Shadow of the Wind” is a book about books.
When I finished reading the last page, I turned back to the front cover and started reading it again. A wonderful mystery of love lost and life renewed. Brilliantly written, the story is full of laughs, tragedy and suspense that will keep you turning pages to the very end.
One of my favorite books to read!! Absolutely love this book. I lost all awareness of everything around and became so totally immersed into the story the characters and the time and place!
This book is very interesting, has characters you know of in history, which the author brings to life as normal individuals. I highly recommend this easy to read book.
I found this a hard book to read
Unusual, interesting, gripping, enigmatic and warm
Thats how in five words I can explain this book.
The first time when I saw the book in the list of “must read books” I didn’t pay my attention. I thought “okay, cool, later”. Lately, I had come across this book MANY TIMES, so it hooked me up
The unique idea, misterious atmosphere are also the reasons why I enjoy reading “The shadow of the wind”
I don’t want to spoiler, no way, but want to warn you that you won’t be able to forget this story.
P.S.
I want to pay special attention to Fermin
I wish everyone had a friend like FERMIN
I laughed, supported and worried about him.He is special
You will understand
Enjoy reading 🙂
wonderful writer.. interesting, slightly magical book with Franco’s Barcelona as a major character. Well written and haunting.
One of my favorite books of all time. A story that will stick with you—probably forever.
This is my all time favorite book. Love everything about it….
Take my word for it, you will thank me.
This book starts off excellent then drags through the middle, but keep reading it because it does kick back up and finish off excellent!
Started with an interesting story with well formed characters but just went on too long! I stopped, read another book, and came back and still had to force myself to finish.
Another of zafon’s prodigious books stretches to shortness of breath.
Hard to get into but well worth sticking with it.
I have enjoyed two of this author’s books.n Being written in another language and interpreted in English is admirable! Wonderful story.
Gives an authentic sense of place and a piece of history. Perhaps a bit unrealistic in terms of story line but the descriptive writing and creative plot help overcome this.
Barcelona, 1945: a young boy named Daniel visits a crypt that holds old and unusual books. He picks up a book called “The Shadow of the Wind” by an author named Julian Carax. He becomes infatuated with the book and wants to find other works by this author. When he sets out to find them, he makes a shocking discovery – none exist. Someone has been destroying them, and Daniel may have the last book in existence. Daniel sets out on a quest to discover why, and over several years, it opens the door to Barcelona’s darkest secrets. Daniel soon discovers a past with Carax and the people around him that is full of murder and lost love.
This is one of the best books I have ever read. I don’t want to say too much about it, becuase I feel that this is a book you need to experience for yourself. The writing is superb from the beginning. The story is compelling with several twists and turns and also there is a back story of almost all of the characters. You are easily sucked in to their lives – waiting to learn more.
This book is amazing. I don’t give a lot of books a 5 rating, but this one deserves it. You must read this book – don’t miss it.
One of the best books I have ever read. It is beautifully written. The stories are mesmerizing. The character development is exceptional. Many twists and turns and unexpected events.
