never read a book quite like this..it was just un-put down able….
Different and interesting
Very interesting story by a foreign author. Plenty of twists and turns and tragedy! I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying this!
So well written and such diverse well constructed characters and story with surprising twists and turns. A definite page turner and one of those books where I am dreading the end because I don’t want it to end.
WONDERFULLY MYSTERIOUS
Story is a turn pager with twists that developed the characters and their relationship with each other.
This was a long read and I got confused sometimes, but it really was a haunting story and beautifully written
Very original, getting the next book in the series.
The best book I ever read
Dragged on a bit.
This is one of my favorite books but it is a hard one to describe. If you are a real booklover this is possibly a book for you. It is real literature and my get under your skin. I have never been able to forget it. I reread it from time to time and always find more to love about it
Wonderful book.
Set during the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, Carlos Ruiz Zafón’s The Shadow of the Wind is a gorgeous novel filled with stunning prose, intriguing characters, and an epic story that will stay with you long after you have finished reading. The writing is lyrical and evocative, and this is the sort of a book that is clearly a pleasure to read as words are elegantly and efficiently strung together to paint a picture of Spain in the 1940s.
The book has a gothic and romantic tone that makes the plot that much more atmospheric. It grips you and tugs at your emotions, transporting you to another time and place as you follow Daniel’s quest and passion for the mysterious tome The Shadow and the Wind and the interesting characters he encounters along the way. This novel is a love letter to the power of books and a truly great read that shouldn’t be missed.
The book is set up in between-wars Barcelona. Dark images of the cruelty of a regime set the love story, center to the plot, apart from others. First in the Cemetary of Forgotten Books series, it’s less fantastical than the next one, which I read first, so I had expectations I wouldn’t have otherwise. Strange, depressing, well-written. Give it a try!
The story seemed to be caught up in a loop; one character after another revealed tragic hidden past events that linked them together in a Bizantine fashion.
Another GREAT READ! A truly original novel. Great characters. Wonderful story. Would recommend — HIGHLY – to every friend. Did, and everyone thanked me to recommending the book.
I couldn’t understand the story line until the last chapter. Strange book.
Oh, my. This book and its reverence for the written word haunts me.
The writing is beautiful, a book you can lose yourself in. Remarkable characters.
