Interview with the Author
Q: So, what makes the Hiram Kane series special?
A: It’s a mix of unique factors, really. When I started writing the Kane series I wanted to create books that echoed the kind of books I love to read, so think of action-adventure thrillers a la Clive Cussler & Russell Blake. I set my stories all over the world, which also mirrors my own life as a travel addict and thrill seeker, and Kane, like me, has a degree in archaeology. Interesting fact; I’ve visited all the featured locations in the series myself. Unlike Hiram, however, I am not a master of martial arts.
What readers will find are lightning-paced, internationally staged page-turners with real-world events and spectacularly exotic settings. Oh, and a cast of nefarious villains and a genuine action hero.
I like to keep my readers guessing, and there’s never a dull moment when Hiram Kane’s involved.
Q: Are the books standalone stories?
A: They can be, yes, and can definitely be read independently from each other. But a few of the main characters feature throughout and the story threads all tie nicely together by the last installment. Well, maybe there’ll be more ☺
If readers do want to read in the optimal order, I suggest the following sequence:
The Tiger Temple
The Samurai Code
The Condor Prophecy
The Shadow of Kailash
The Feathered serpent
Of Curses and Kings} Coming soon …
Q: Why should readers give the Kane books a chance?
A: Because Kane’s adventures are page-turning action-fests that pull no punches and would definitely appeal to readers who enjoy tales of real-world issues mixed with despicable bad guys and pulse-pounding action sequences. Oh yeah, the awesome power of Mother Nature plays a significant role in all the books.
I loved writing them … I’m confident readers will love reading them!more

This installment – in my humble opinion-has been by far the most personal story of Hiram, his involvement with the harsh reality he and the majority of us despise so much and are so against. Moore has taken us from the beautiful plains of India, Tibet with its calm and peaceful surroundings, the inner loveliness of the people to the undesirable aspects of human depravation, not only in Asia but, existing in all the countries. A gritty, sometimes cruel scenes were hard to digest, sadly our present day situation. It has been a constant contrast of emotional up and downheavels. I couldn’t help been touched by all of the sentiments manifested and my heart in turmoil.. it has been a giddy experience. An emotional and exciting action roller coaster! I totally empathized with the characters. That we all are good and bad, the hope that goodness can prevail in some of them is a positive and optimistic view I share with Steven Moore. A must read series and highly recommended!
The Shadow of Kailash: A Hiram Kane Action Thriller (The Hiram Kane Adventure Series Book 4), my fifth read from author Steven Moore. Reminiscent of author Dan Brown & (James) Rollinsesque in the action that never lets up until the end. Well-written action-thriller, with well-developed characters. Narrator Kenneth Bryant’s accented narration made this re-read so very enjoyable! “I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.” With every book written Moore gets better & better. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
The Shadow of Kailash – a review by Rosemary Kenny
MCs Hiram Kane and Alex(andrina) Ridley are on a new adventure – it starts with a romantic trip to India and a perfect view of the Taj Mahal. Kane hopes it will make Alex decide in his favour finally, as he’s losing hope of a long-term commitment in their on-again-off-again relationship. The pair befriend Puny, the local ‘chai-wallah’/tea-vendor near their hotel and take him at face value, until events beyond their control change that opinion.
A second theme tells of the seedy criminal underbelly of India with its drug and gun-running and in this case, sex-trafficking of young girls for weapons that are then traded up to terrorist organisations in Asia and the Middle East.
When the two strands intermingle, following Alex’s kidnap and a strange liaison with a local smuggler [whose conscience is troubling him], the sparks really start to fly!
What lies in the Shadow of Kailash will only be revealed in this intriguing book by Steven Moore, so get your copy today!
Having been to Tibet, the beauty is amazing, the Tibetan temples. The other side is the chinese influence that was seen and felt, as the author has shown. The harsh reality of the Himalayas mountains, are a pilgrim for many with the many prayer flags. For Kane the love of his life has been taken and the mountains that separate them With that we see the other side and what he faces to get her back.a powerful story of love.
Hiram Kane gets involved with Chan Lee in a rescue mission to get the Tibetans out to freedom from the Chinese. He finds out about human trafficking in exchange for weapons. Ridley get kidnapped and Kane gets a group together to rescue her. A thrilling ending to this book.
The Shadow of Kailash is the fourth book in The Hiram Kane Adventure Series. This book is a must-read for fans of action thrillers.
It is fast-paced and action-packed with well-developed characters that are strong, intelligent, and realistic. The storyline is well written and captivating, engaging my interest from the beginning and keeping me on the edge of my seat until the end.
This story draws attention to the plight of the Tibetans and their treatment by China. It also focusses on drug running, weapons dealing. Human trafficking is brought to the fore when Alex is taken captive and Hiram has to find her. There is danger, intrigue, suspense, and more in this compelling thriller.
I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
Travel, romance, adventure, thrills, political conflict – all in one book! Hiram Kane and Alex Ridley are a couple taking time to recuperate from their last disaster. While in Peru, they lost many people including their close friend, Evan. One of Evan’s wishes in life was to listen to the teachings of the Dalai Lama, so to honor his friend, Kane decided to make the trip himself. The adventure begins with the meeting of some locals. One was the local tea seller, Puny and the other was Chan Lee, a businessman . Hiram and Alex learn about the hardships of the people of Tibet. They feel that they need to do something to help. The adventure and thrills begin as Hiram and Alex get involved with the local conflicts of drug, sex and gun trafficking. Learning along the way some of the politics of the world vs China. A great read!
For fans of Steven Moore, this latest Hiram Kane adventure, The Shadow of Kailash, will not disappoint. Still recovering from their near-death experience in the Peruvian Andes, Hiram Kane and Alex Ridley travel to India in homage to Evan Craft, their lost friend While in McLeodganj, where they attend an audience of the Dalai Lama, an encounter with a Tibetan monk and a young chai seller start them on their next quest.
The novel focuses on the plight of the Tibetan refugees and the Tibetan peoples’ persecution by the Chinese, and the sex trafficking and sale of young, white women tourists. It also addresses the drug smuggling and weapons dealing across the India-Tibet border. Kane, Ridley, Sam Stein, a young German backpacker, and Lobsang Paljor, a Tibetan monk, travel with Lee Chan, a rescuer of Tibetan refugees and erstwhile drug and weapons dealer across the border. A trip to rescue refugees and stop Chan’s drug business soon turns more deadly when Ridley is kidnapped for the sex slave trade. The ensuing chase to save Ridley in the shadow of Kailash is classic Hiram Kane adrenaline-fueled excitement.
Steven Moore’s books are filled with wonderful global details, obviously the result of his own extensive travels. The Shadow of Kailash is no exception. It brings to light an important geopolitical issue largely ignored on the world stage.
Face paced action adventure thriller.
Steven exposes us to the world of drugs, human trafficking, weapons trade and makes us aware of what the Chinese are doing to People of Tibet. This is a very interesting, easy to read story with well developed characters and wonderful descriptions.
Hiram and Ridley had travelled together since they met at university long before.
In a twisted series of adventures, they find themselves tangled with people in jeopardy who could use a bit of an assist- and find themselves in need as well.
Harrowing and insightful- with impressive elements of love and sacrifice!
Disappointing and definitely not up to Steven’s normal quality.
There is a good story here but you have to dig it out of the political ranting.
Needs editing.
I do not buy a fiction novel to read a political rant, whether I agree with it or not.
All the name shaming of Brit politicians should have been a one time discussion of philosophy. If those individuals had suddenly been unavailable, their party would have installed someone just like them.
The repeated rants pro Tibet started to feel like they were cut and paste. I’d guess ~1/4th of the book should have been on the editing floor.
The Shadow of Kailash is the fourth book in thriller author Steven Moore’s action packed Hiram Kane series. Once again Kane has found himself in a scrap with the bad guys. This time he’s on a humanitarian mission to help ferry Tibetan refugees into India, when he and his crew are drawn into a ring of human traffickers. Hiram’s girlfriend Alex Ridley becomes the real hero, as we witness the emergence of a new action hero to watch. Lots of action and unforgettable locations!
