This book forever changed the way I look at and interact with God.
I loved this book! This gave me a whole new insight of the largeness of God and how humans measure him by what we know, which is our “humanness “ and God is so much larger than that. It changed my whole view of God. I’ve taken to sometimes using “You are one of my favorite people” as my way of saying I’m rather fond of someone. I loved that also because in spite of our short comings he is rather fond of us. If you are a Christian seeking more insight to the largeness and all encompassing goodness of God’s love then this book will make you think. The film is great too, but, as always, the book is SOOOO MUCH BETTER! Highly recommend!!
In my opinion, this book is excellent for a time when you want to just sit and read during the cold months, it is a page turner and mind opener to new ideas and not your traditional thinking. I’m excited about the movie as well, but I will probably re-read it myself during time off during the holidays.
This is a must read for anyone I loved the premise if even a little fictional it really makes you think very very thought provoking long after the last page
I read this book when I was going through a rough time in my life. Watched the movie and had to read the book again. Everyone should read this book and see the movie.
Gives you a lot to think about life. Anyone who has ever experienced loss and grief would find this a comfort.
I have read a lot of books but nothing hit me as hard as this book did. I could feel the pain and the joy. I was awesome .
I gave a copy of this book to my daughter when her daughter was killed in an accident. It’s about a little girl who is kidnapped and murdered and they never find her body. It goes through the grieving process and finally comes forgiveness when he finds her body 5 years later in the shack. It characterizes God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit in human form that guides him to peace and forgiveness.
You could read this over and over. I listen often to the audiobook when crocheting. I would say at least 8 times since I got it. The movie comes out in March. So excited. If you haven’t read this please please do. You will forever be touched by this story.
This book gives believers or non-believers a tangible perspective on how the here and now connects us all to life and it’s purposes. It is a text of metaphors and analogous comparative language that gives new light to our reason for living. You won’t want to put it down!
It took 6 months to read this book. I was scary and real and true. It is interesting and painful at the same time. So glad I read it.
This book will open your mind to the greatness of God and show the reader how we as a society often put God in a box, especially after a tragedy. I highly recommend this book.
I have read this book numerous times. I also had the pleasure of meeting William Paul Young. He has an amazing gift of sharing God’s word.
The story in this book was a surprise to me. I thoroughly enjoyed it once I realized the story line and understood what the author was talking about. I thought it had a surprise ending, but an appropriate one. I recommend this book to any who are searching for meaning in tragedy.

Hard to follow
I hated this book and wish I had Never read it
The shack will expand your vision of God, amazing journey!
I put this book down several times, determined to not finish it. It made me uncomfortable because of the evil done to a child and because of the portrayal of God as a woman. But I couldn’t resist finishing it. In the end, I’m glad I read it because it made me stretch my thinking. It made me examine my perceptions, and begin to understand how much God loves each and every one of us, no matter our sins.
Mesmerizing wonderful story. A must read!!
