Tara Babcock awakes the morning after her 30th birthday with a hangover that could kill an elephant – and the knowledge she is still no closer to achieving closure on her marriage breakup. Things go from bad to worse when she discovers that, not only is her ex-husband engaged to her cousin – Tash, the woman he left her for – but that Jake is also running for Lord Mayor of Sydney.
Desperate to leave the destructive relationship behind and with nothing to lose, she decides – with encouragement from her three best friends – to follow the dubious advice from a magazine article, Closure in Seven Easy Steps.
The Seven Steps to Closure follows Tara on her sometimes disastrous – always hilarious – path to achieve the seemingly impossible.
A credible and amazingly touching debut novel from Donna Joy Usher, this is a solid, light-hearted and honest read with plenty of laughs.
“The Seven Steps to Closure’s heroine, Tara, is an endearing character and her entertaining journey to closure is packed with laughs and plenty of heart.” Tonya Plank, Shirley You Jest! Book Awards judge and author of ‘Swallow’.

What a great read. Think I might try some of these steps to move past a difficult breakup.
I had a difficult time putting this book down. The main character’s various issues that arise were actually relatable in different ways. Most people have had a broken heart and had difficulties getting over it. Some have done some of the other things that she does. It was entertaining and funny.
This was my first read by this author. Somewhere along the line I downloaded it as a freebie and what a fun surprise it was to read. Tara is still not over the end of her lousy marriage. Her ex belittled her, told her she was ugly and cheated on her with her cousin. As miserable as she was she still seems to think that she wants him back. A …
I thought is was a light hearted book that took you away from the real world for a little while when reading it!
I learned that I did everything the right way for closure!!
A great, funny story about the real difficulty in moving past heartbreak, breaking bad habits, and discovering the person you want to be.
Tara has been divorced by a manipulative jerk, and can’t really get over it – particularly as he’s running for political office and is engaged to her cousin. Her friends conduct an intervention – The 7 Steps to Closure- to help her move on. During the process she finds herself traveling in India with hot reporter Matt. The book is an …
I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down. Amazing and perfect ending.
Laugh out loud
Fun. Great descriptions of foreign lands. Thumbs up!
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it as an easy read. There was just enough humor and fun in the book.
I read this at least a year ago and I still chuckle about it. This is a great fast read and it’s light and you’ll find yourself laughing out loud at times. It’s nice that this character is realistic.
Uplifting, easy read. Loved the characters, smiled thru the whole book.
loved it.
I quit reading as soon as she let the Parakeet free, that is animal abuse!
The first part of this book was interesting but I really couldn’t see where it was going. However I stuck with it and am very glad I did. It ended up bringing me tons of laughter. I found a piece of myself in the main character and ended up engrossed in the last 61% of the book. Nothing ever goes quite right for her but she has a good sense of …
Completely different. Totally didn’t see any of that coming. Which was wonderful. Loved all the different characters and relationships between them. A fabulous book.
This is a cute love story. The character is trying to get over a past lover. Her friend had read an article and guides her through the numerous stages of closure and as she goes through the stages she meets the love of her life.
This is a perfect beach read or pool book! Loved it!
I don’t know that I would follow the 7 steps myself, but they made for a great premise for building a story around. And, as life can be quite unpredictable, this story offers nice surprises too. I really enjoyed the foreign travel part….. a nice taste of another place very different from where I live.
Very good story and filled with humour
