The first book in a major new series from #1 internationally bestselling author Lucinda Riley, author of The Midnight Rose–hailed as “an extraordinary story and] a complex, deeply engaging tale filled with fascinating characters” (Library Journal). Maia D’Apliese and her five sisters gather together at their childhood home, “Atlantis”–a fabulous, secluded castle situated on the shores of Lake … situated on the shores of Lake Geneva–having been told that their beloved father, who adopted them all as babies, has died. Each sister is handed a tantalizing clue to her true heritage–a clue that takes Maia across the world to a crumbling mansion in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Once there, she begins to put together the pieces of her story.
Eighty years earlier in the Rio of the 1920s, Izabela Bonifacio’s father has aspirations for his daughter to marry into the aristocracy. Meanwhile, architect Heitor da Silva Costa is devising plans for an enormous statue, to be called Christ the Redeemer, and will soon travel to Paris to find the right sculptor to complete his vision. Izabela–passionate and longing to see the world–convinces her father to allow her to accompany him and his family to Europe before she is married. There, at Paul Landowski’s studio and in the heady, vibrant cafes of Montparnasse, she meets ambitious young sculptor Laurent Brouilly, and knows at once that her life will never be the same again.
In this sweeping, epic tale of love and loss–the first in a unique, spellbinding new series–Lucinda Riley showcases her storytelling talents like never before.more
This was the first book I’d read by this author but I literally couldn’t put this book down once I’d started it. The storyline was refreshing and the characters stay with you after it’s finished. I loved this book so much I got the next book in the series
The book is great. I loved all the characters, they were real and the story is magic. If you want to have a dad like Pa Salt or a sister like Maya then this is a book for you.
Following the death of her stepfather, one of six adopted sisters goes on a quest to discover her origins. Her journey takes her from Switzerland to Brazil and Paris.
This incredibly moving well written and researched story is set in the present with flashbacks to the 1920s, and contains lots of historical facts.
An exceptional story which I loved …
This was a little slow at first but then I really enjoyed it, although I must admit some sections had me holding back the tears. Maia, the oldest of the sisters journeys to Brazil to try to discover her roots. I enjoyed the story set in the 1920s and it inspired me to read more about the statue of Christ the Redeemer. I did feel for Izabela and …
I read this one and then found out it was one of seven – Love this series – cannot wait for the seventh one to come out!!
This is book one in The Seven Sisters Series and it is Maia’s story and omg you really need to read this book. This is not a genre that I would normally read but when I was offered a copy of this book to read and review I wanted to give it a go as I have heard such a lot about this book and series and I am really happy that I did as it was …
Really great story lines in this book. Enjoyed every minute of it
How I loved the concept of this book. The idea that an elusive billionaire (Pa Salt) adopted six baby girls and named them after the Pleiades, the seventh one, Merope, mysteriously absent.
When Pa Salt dies (or disappears), each young woman is left with coordinates and clues that lead the to find their true identity. Thus in Book One (THE SEVEN …
I’m so excited that this book is the first in a series. It means I get to enjoy more of the story. This was a great story, both in the present and in the past, revealing a mystery of love and secrets. It covers multiple corners of the earth and the struggle between duty and love. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.
Fun to read
Once you’ve read the first in the series you can’t wait to read the others. Brilliant story lines.
Great read. Excellent writing. Good character building. Would recommend to a friend.
Beautifully written family saga with a profound message about how our love life choices have far-reaching consequences for our own happiness. Along with an enchanting search for family roots, the book is rich with details about the history of the statue of St. Christ Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. A story of Love, friendship, family secrets and …
A clever plot sets up the background of a family raising seven daughters, then branches off to the story of the eldest — the loves, disappointments, heartbreaks, infidelities, etc., which affect the choices in her life.
The characters are interesting and realistic; the story flows slowly and is a fairly easy read, but be prepared. The last …
I loved this first book in the Seven Sisters series, can’t wait to read the rest! I loved the way it weaved a present day and past story…
Maybe even 4.5 stars! THE SEVEN SISTERS is the first in an ambitious series of novels Lucinda Riley plans (2 more are already written)– each telling the story of six girls, all adopted by the same mysterious man who lives in a castle on Lake Geneva. If this one turns out to be representative of the entire series, I am totally hooked.
This novel …
