#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Jack Reacher is back! The “utterly addictive” (The New York Times) series continues as acclaimed author Lee Child teams up with his brother, Andrew Child, fellow thriller writer extraordinaire.“One of the many great things about Jack Reacher is that he’s larger than life while remaining relatable and believable. The Sentinel shows that two Childs are even better … shows that two Childs are even better than one.”—James Patterson
As always, Reacher has no particular place to go, and all the time in the world to get there. One morning he ends up in a town near Pleasantville, Tennessee.
But there’s nothing pleasant about the place.
In broad daylight Reacher spots a hapless soul walking into an ambush. “It was four against one” . . . so Reacher intervenes, with his own trademark brand of conflict resolution.
The man he saves is Rusty Rutherford, an unassuming IT manager, recently fired after a cyberattack locked up the town’s data, records, information . . . and secrets. Rutherford wants to stay put, look innocent, and clear his name.
Reacher is intrigued. There’s more to the story. The bad guys who jumped Rutherford are part of something serious and deadly, involving a conspiracy, a cover-up, and murder—all centered on a mousy little guy in a coffee-stained shirt who has no idea what he’s up against.
Rule one: if you don’t know the trouble you’re in, keep Reacher by your side.

One of the many great things about Jack Reacher is that he’s larger than life while remaining relatable and believable. The Sentinel shows that two Childs are even better than one.
The book talks about precision in the beginning and efficiency at the ending. It’s a shame it contained neither. I have never seen or heard Jack Reacher be so talky. Nor have I ever seen him be quite as arrogant about his skills. The story is clumsy, convoluted, and chock full of clichés. I’ve read all twenty-four of the previous books several times and several of them multiple times. This is not one of those. I won’t say it’s a bad book or a poor story. It’s just not the same quality story or character. Read it for yourself and make up your own mind. I’ve seen this happen with other authors when they bring in cowriters or when their estates sell off the rights for continuation. It’s not the same voice. How could it be? As for me, say goodbye, Jack, I won’t be back.
One of the better books in this series. Still cannot tolerate Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher.
You can count on Child to make it a good read from cover to cover
Lee Child is back! The last few Reacher books had a “phoned in” feel to them, but this one is vintage Reacher. I don’t know if it was the influence of Child’s brother, but this was the best Reacher book of late.
excellent storyline as usual
So disappointed. Oh, Lee Child, why did you involve a lesser writer in your series? (I’m sorry, I know he’s your son.) But PLEASE go back to the Reacher series solo. The Sentinel contains corny humor, dialogue Jack Reacher would never speak, and much too much time spent drinking coffee in hotel rooms with no furthering of the plot. There were the three requisite fight scenes (with some seemingly cut-and-paste descriptions from past Reacher novels describing his knockouts), and what has become apparent over the last few Child books as, “The Formula.” I long for another Reacher novel like Tripwire, Persuader, One Shot, Running Blind, and Die Trying: Where every plot is different, tense, and spectacular.
I have been a fan of Lee Child for years and have read all his books. This is the first one I’ve read co-authored with his brother. Jack Reacher never disappoints!
I always love anything Reacher!!
Reeacher doesn’t disappoint! I love reading books where the characters have personalities that are both smart and goal oriented. I love the thoughts and story line that follow through every adventure. Thanks for taking me along yet again. I always look forward to a new plot and experience.
The Sentinel by Lee Child and Andrew Child is another action-packed adventure in the Jack Reacher series. I enjoyed reading this, but in my opinion there was a different writing style and it didn’t “wow me” the way a Jack Reacher novel usually does. I found it to be a little slow-moving at times and I rated it a four.
Andrew Child is not Lee. A WORLD of difference in the two writers.
Jack Reacher is getting more and more violent…
I love the Reacher series but this book was just a bit off. Good plot but it felt like there was something missing. Lack of detail or character building. Just didn’t match up what I have come to expect from these novels. Almost like they followed their formula but didn’t put a lot of effort into filling itout.
It’s obvious Andrew Child wrote this book. It was good, but just didn’t feel the same. I’m probably done with the series, and that’s saying a lot because this was my favorite book series of all time.
Best author ever
Very very disappointed in this Jack Reacher novel, any teenager watching the news could have written it ” fake news” nothing at all original the ending was very easily predictable, I am an avid fan of the previous Jack Reacher novels.
I have read all Lee Child, “Jack Reacher” books. Although Sentinel is an entertaining book, it just didn’t have the same pizzazz that most “Jack Reacher” books have. I wish the opening scene would have been completed at the end of the book. Just saying!
Slow start. Not typical.
Lee Child never disappoints.
