Will Heidi’s cooking lessons turn into life lessons for five unlikely students? Heidi Troyer cooks up the idea of teaching classes in the art of Amish cuisine in her Holmes County, Ohio, home. But is it a recipe for drama when five very different men and women answer the advertisement? Join a class of unlikely Ohioans who take cooking lessons at Lyle and Heidi Troyer’s Amish farm. A woman … Lyle and Heidi Troyer’s Amish farm. A woman engaged to marry, an expectant mother estranged from her family, a widowed mom seeking to simplify, a Vietnam vet who camps on the Troyer’s farm, and an Amish widower make up the mismatched lot of students.
Class members share details of their disappointing lives, work to solve a mystery, and stir some romance into the pot. Soon Heidi’s cooking lessons turn into life lessons as they each share their challenges. . .and their souls are healed one meal at a time. Is this what God had in mind when Heidi got the idea for cooking classes?

It was thoroughly enjoyable
A really enjoyable book. Liked the characters.
This is a delightful Amish novel!
I love the main characters in this wonderful story. They are very well developed and easy to connect with. The variety of characters and the situations they are dealing with is great. I really liked the fact that Heidi needed support and encouragement from her mother.
The journeys that each of the students went through with their problems was realistic and actually encouraging. They helped to remind me that no matter what problem you face scripture can uplift and guide you.
Wanda E. Brunstetter’s “The Seekers” is the start of a new series called the Amish Cooking Class which drew me in right from the first page. The characters are all well scripted with very distinct personalities and voices. Right from the very beginning I could tell that Ms. Brunstetter is insightful of the Amish ways as well as human strengths and weaknesses. She is a true Amish-Christian story teller bringing the Lord into each one of her character’s lives just when he is needed the most.
The main character Heidi Troyer is the teacher of the cooking class and subtly helps each one of her five students with the bible versus inscribed on the back of each or the recipe cards she gives them at each class. I enjoyed the uniqueness of each character that Ms. Brunstetter brought into this delightful story. Each one had a different hardship in their life besides the lack of the knowledge of cooking, and coming together in this cooking class is what each of them needed at this juncture in their lives. The characters in this story made it a very hard book to put down as well as the impressive plot twists.
I cannot wait to read more about Heidi and her cooking class and recommend this delightful first installment of what promises to be an outstanding series to all who love Amish-Christian stories written by a well established author such as Wanda E. Brunstetter.
This is the first book I have read by Ms. Brunstetter and what a joy it was. I received an advanced copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
I have always enjoyed reading books written by Wanda E. Brunstetter, and this one did not disappoint! This is a clever idea and another look into the lives of Amish.
Easy to read. I guessed early on what would happen. Enjoyed the book.
