From the New York Times bestselling author of The Wrong Man and Eyes on You comes a harrowing new psychological thriller about a successful self-help author who suddenly finds her life spiraling dangerously out of control. What would you do if you realized that your new husband, a man you adore, is keeping secrets from you—secrets with terrifying consequences? Bryn Harper, an accomplished … terrifying consequences?
Bryn Harper, an accomplished self-help author, already has plenty to deal with. She’s still recovering from a devastating car accident that has left her haunted by recurring, smoke-filled nightmares. Worse still, she can’t shake the ominous feeling her dreams contain a warning.
At the beginning of their relationship, Bryn’s husband Guy couldn’t have been more supportive. But after they move into a new house together, disturbing incidents occur and Guy grows evasive. Bryn is increasingly unsettled, and then a woman hired to cater their dinner party is brutally murdered.
As Bryn’s world unravels—and yet another woman in town is slain —she must summon her old strength to find answers and protect her own life. Her nightmares may in fact hold the key to unlocking the truth and unmasking the murderer.
With unexpected, riveting twists, The Secrets You Keep is an utterly compelling psychological thriller that once again showcases Kate White’s extraordinary storytelling talent.

This was a good book! It kept me intrigued throughout and at times I wasn’t sure what Bryn was going to find out about her past, since she seemed to suffer from some form of partial amnesia from a car accident that she was involved in. As I read through the story, I started to really wonder who was messing with her head because everyone seemed to be suspect. The climax of the story was good and I was a little thrown by both the villain and the reasoning behind everything. I liked the surprising shift of this event and I felt that it was written well. I am a fan of Kate’s and will continue reading her books!
This is an intense, gripping, well-written, entertaining psychological thriller, which is set in an interesting locale. Its suspense, intrigue, mystery, secrets, and twists and turns kept me engaged from the beginning to its surprising ending.
This is my second Kate White book and not my last. I love books that I can not figure out the end of. With this book I thought it could be one of two people and boy was I surprised, just love that. It keeps you glued to the pages and not want to put it down.
Having forgotten I had already read this book two years ago, I was already a couple chapters into it before I realized I was duplicating my reading efforts. Still, I was enjoying the story enough to continue, even though much already resonated. That I was drawn in a second time says a great deal. Good storytelling and interesting plots make for a good reading experience, and The Secrets You Keep had both. The psychological intrigue in this story keeps the momentum going. A recovering wife with questionable psychological issues, a suspicious husband, and murder set the scene. Add to that, questionable events and suspicion on most of the remaining characters, and the riddle of who to trust keeps the pace exciting. Read it once, read it twice. It’s that good!
One of my favorite thrillers
I would like to thank NetGalley and Canelo for sending me an arc of this book much appreciated! I was really fancying reading a mystery/thriller so I was happy to pick this up and begin to read! The beginning of the story really captures you and makes you want to read more. From the first page, I couldn’t put the book down it was so gripping and I did, in fact, finish this in one sitting. I loved how suspense was built in the novel it was paced extremely well!
I wasn’t really sure about Bryn’s character at times I thought she was way too open with strangers and acquaintances, like telling them things I really don’t think should have been shared. So I didn’t really like that about her, I did like that she wasn’t willing to be lied to about anything once she discovered the truth about her husband. I loved Bryn’s thought process.
I thought the car accident was very clever way to work it into the book, all the separate plot lines really did build into one, and I thought that was very clever and it worked so well, as the story goes you begin to put things together and I loved that. I also thought the theme of memory was very good and that worked well with relating all the plots together and I did think that was brilliant. I don’t want to talk about the plot so much because of spoilers but basically, after a dinner party, the caterer is murdered and it begins a series of events I’m just going to leave it at that.
I felt like her husband was a bit dodgy, I was right. Throughout the book you are constantly unsure who you can trust and who you can’t and I didn’t trust anybody, apart from a character named Derek, I felt like he was trying to help her but other than that I really didn’t trust any of these characters. I was glad I was right about the killer. I didn’t guess who the killer was not until the moment it was revealed and I was very shocked. I liked it.
Everyone has secrets….or so it seems in this book. Ms. White kept me intrigued from the start to finish with her well written plot, the believable characters and the suspense of the ‘who done it’. Bryn is struggling to remember an accident, struggling to untangle a mystery of missing money and burnt matches, struggling to save or destroy her marriage and all the while trying to appear ‘sane’ to the cops. Pick this book if you’re ready to lose sleep.
I’ve been a fan of Ms. White since at least 2002 when “If Looks Could Kill” came out. I haven’t had the chance to read many in the last few years, but I do still have some to catch up on. Looking forward to being entertained more. Thanks for a great book.
This book was good…..it took me a while to get into it, but it was a surprise ending.
Interesting book with an anti-climatic conclusion. Bryn and Guy start off as the perfect couple, in love, and doing well. Strange things force Bryn to question her husband and those around here. It is interesting to read how Bryn finally uncovers the truth, but I wanted the end to have more of a BANG!
This was an intense look into the life of Bryn Harper….smart, a writer, married, and recovering from a car accident. The car accident has left blank spots in her mind, her memory of the incident keeps playing in her head but changing also.
She has moved into a rental home with Guy, her new husband and is slowly recovering. Guy works lots of hours and Bryn xan write from home, if she gets her strength back from her injuries. The couple is adjusting to living together full time as they had separate places due to careers.
Bryn chats via phone/computer with Dr G and is trying her best to remember the accident. But at a small party Bryn meets Barb and Kim and Derek and Sandra. And money goes missing along with burnt matches left behind.
The pace intensifies as Bryn discovers the caterer dead. The police figure it is easier to look at Bryn and Guy then at anyone else. As Bryn discovers her husband is keeping secrets, she decides to solve her own secret…why did the car crash and why was an acquaintance with her?
There is plenty of scenery of the area, small town feel and gossip. The intimacies and conversationa between spouses. The fear of living someplace new and not knowing whom to trust. Bryn is one smart cookie and as scared and confused as she is, she digs deep and learns that sometimes the lies are easier to believe than the awful truth.
Atmospheric, detailed, you can see abd hear the porch door slam, you feel the looks of other people, and you follow the clues.
4.6 stars…good beach read….
Main character is a bit neurotic, but many twists and turns to make it exciting enough to complete.
Extremely well written. I was involved until the very last page. I highly recommend this book.
This enthralling little page turner is sure to keep you captivated and teetering on the edge of your seat the whole way through!! Kate White has a winner on her hands with this one, it sure to score major points with mystery fans!!
Boring
The writing in this book is awful. Even though written as if the character is telling the story, it doesn’t have to include each and every movement. The plot isn’t bad but the way it is written is very distracting. I haven’t finished it yet but probably will simply because I always finish what I am reading.
Kept my attention. Each page found me wanting to get to the next. At times found myself skimming thru just so I could find out more.
A page turner for most of the book, then became predictable toward the end. I still finished it and enjoyed it, mostly.
Poor character development and simplistic writing style. I felt the characters as presented were unrealistic and the “who done it” was predictable.
Good story
Great character development. Lots of twists and turns in the plot. Good from start to finish.
