I received this as an ARC, and am voluntarily providing an honest review. Emerald has written another fantastic book. I got to know the girls history a lot better in this book. It was very interesting. The storyline was great. It held my interest from page one. I highly recommend this book.
Twists, turns, plot upset and wait, what? Then stupid, stupid girl?! What were you thinking?! Then finally, peace, acceptance, perseverance, truth.
Sometimes your closest family is not blood.
Grace and Madigan are something special. This continues after The Girls Across The Bay, so if you have not read it, I recommend stopping here and reading that one first. After reading over half of this one I learned that Wrong Angle ties in between them. While this one can be read as a standalone I don’t recommend it. You don’t want to miss out on all the goodness.
Emerald is a newer to me author, and I am loving her stuff. I can’t wait to read more. There is so much mystery and suspense, with just a little romance mixed in. This is mostly about the girls and their relationship with each other.
This book left me wanting more, hope to read the continuation of this story about Madigan and Grace as they continue on their journey through life. Madigan and Grace have ghosts as well as secrets and they are hopefully on the road to recovery. Really enjoy Emerald O’Brien’s writing style. Cannot wait to read the further adventures in this series.
This book was an AMAZING read! I absolutely loved the two different story lines built around Grace’s case and Madigan’s hunt for the truth. The plot was diverse, interesting and flowed so smoothly and seamlessly from sister to sister. This was a fantastic follow-up to the first novel, and I am very much looking forward to more offerings from O’Brien in this series.
I read The Girls Across the Bay first. This is the second in the series. These two girls are fascinating! I really enjoyed these stories. It’s about love, murder, honor and the deep bond between two girls from foster care who became closer than most biological sisters. They have great personalities. Deep secrets.
In this story Madigan and Grace are both fighting their own inner demons and trying to hide it from the other. Little do they know, that as they both do their own investigating it will come full circle back to them both! Grace is investigating the death at a wedding that Madigan had attended as a guest. Grace is also trying to keep a professional relationship with her partner Mac, but they both feel the chemistry between them. This causes even more problems during the investigation, but Grace is bound and determined to get back to being the Detective she was in the big city. Madigan is trying to find the person who attacked her and left her afraid of her own shadow. Even an alarm system and her dog isn’t keeping the feeling of helplessness away when she is alone. In the end, things get really interweaved between the two investigations. Whose life will be lost in the end? You will have to read the book to find out who the winner is and who is the loster. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and this is my opinion of it. A wonderful suspenseful story!
4.5 Stars
This was another GREAT story from Emerald O’Brien and the reason I always find the perfect escape from Romance. This story draws you in with the crime, but keeps you there with the feeling, you keep flipping pages because you want to know what happens and see how the story unfolds – both personally and professionally. I became invested in Madigan and Grace’s relationship in the first book, so I have to admit parts of this hurt a little – then again that is what makes it more “real”.
If Emerald writes it, I will read it….
