Exciting, emotional, intense. The thrilling follow-up to New York Times bestselling author Brenda Novak’s highly acclaimed The Secret Sister. The things that happen in families are always surprising and sometimes shocking! The rich and powerful Josephine Lazarow, matriarch of Fairham Island, is dead. The police say it’s suicide, but Keith, her estranged son, doesn’t believe it. Keith bears … son, doesn’t believe it.
Keith bears scars–both physical and emotional–from his childhood, but he’s worked hard to overcome the past. After walking away from his mother and her controlling ways five years ago, he’s built a new life in LA. He’s also accumulated a fortune of his own. But as soon as he learns of his mother’s death, he returns to Fairham. He feels he owes it to his grandfather to put the family empire together again–and he’s determined to find his mother’s killer.
Problem is…coming home to Fairham puts him back in contact with Nancy Dellinger, the woman he hurt so badly when he left before. And digging that deep into his mother’s final days and hours entails a very real risk.
Because the person who killed her could be someone he loves…

This was better than the first book in the series. It kept me on edge the whole time trying to figure out who killed Keith, Maisey, and Rocki’s Mom Josephine. While figuring out who killed his Mother, even though the police ruled out suicide, he is trying to get Nancy back. Nancy is the woman who was there for Keith the whole time he was dealing with drugs, drinking, and his mothers abuse to him. Keith does not believe his mother committed suicide because she had such superior self worth of herself and she would never do that to herself. This was riveting and such a suspenseful book. Read it! I just love Brenda Novak’s books.
This is book 2 of the Fairham Island series which, right now, just consists of these 2 books. This book is not a continuation of the first book but picks up a few years after the first book ends. It does a nice job of bringing you up to date on the characters’ lives from the first book but there is no need to have read that book first.
This tells the story of Keith Lazarow as he returns to Fairham Island after the death of his mother, with whom he had a tumultuous relationship with. After he returns, he becomes suspicious of his mother’s death which was ruled a suicide. He thinks she was murdered and sets out to prove it.
I really enjoyed this series and the characters were real and relatable. Definitely recommend.
The Secrets She Kept was another great read by Brenda Novak. Josephine is the rich and powerful matriarch of Fairham Island, and now is dead. The police believe it’s a suicide but her son, Keith, doesn’t believe that. Keith has spent the last five years building a life and fortune away from his mother. Once he hears of her eath, he returns he is back in contact with the one woman he hurt many years ago, Nancy. I really enjoyed Keith and Nancy’s story. As well as hearing how Keith aided in finding what happened to his mom. I can’t wait to read more by Brenda Novak.
This is a fantastic second book in the Fairham Island series. I did read the amazing first book and immediately began the The Secrets She Kept. I wish the series continued to more books, since I do not want the stories to end. I enjoyed the author’s ability to draw me into the lives of her characters and I wanted the best outcome for (most) of them.
The plot was so riveting and this book was definitely a page-turner for me! I do believe a reader could enjoy the second book without reading the first, but my advice is to read the two book series!
I enjoyed reading this book and I hope other readers will pick it up also.
Another intriguing story with characters I enjoyed.
This is the second book in the Fairham series.
I thought the first one was twisted. This one picks up five years later, with a mysterious death. Suicide or homicide…. that’s the big question. I love that Keith and Nancy have their story told. This will keep you turning the pages to see who done what. Highly recommend this book.
Everyone thought the richest family in town had everything. But all they had were secrets. A sister found, abuse, drugs to cope, murder, family, low self worth, finally love and resolve. Brenda’s writing will keep your interest and have you wanting more. I read The Secret Sister and this book in a book bundle.
I loved it as well as other Nora Roberts books
This is the second book in a series, though, as the authors like to say, it is a stand alone book, too. This book picks up five years after The Secret Sister. Keith Lazarow, tall, extremely handsome, recovering drug addict, has moved to Malibu from Fairham Island, SC. In doing so, he walked away from the Coldiron empire and his autocratic mother with the full support of his two sisters, Maisey and Roxanne (Rockie).
After receiving a phone call in the middle of the night from his sister Maisey, telling him their mother was dead, found naked in the bathtub, Keith returns to Fairham Island. He is convinced his mother did not commit suicide, which is what the police initially think after seeing the crime scene.
Nancy Dellinger, his former lover and manager of his mother’s flower shop, Love’s in Bloom, is glad Josephine Lazarow is dead. Josephine was an extremely critical boss, to the point of making Nancy feel totally inept. Though Nancy still has a crush on Keith, even after all these years, she is determined not to fall for him again.
This books is has several twists and turns, making it hard to determine who is the real killer. It keeps you guessing. This is a really good mystery.
