Though perhaps improbable, this story line kept me engaged until the end.Great historical detail added plausibility to what was a fairly unlikely premise.
Excellent story of what might have been. I kept wanting to believe that it really happened.
This was an excellent book and actually could be a true story. Very moving and even though you all know how this ends from history books, it’s still very touching.
Great read! Keeps you trying to figure out what happened!!!
Very emotional and dramatic. The characters seem so authentic.
I am only partway through the book but I am enjoying the back and forth between times.
Enjoyed this book so much!
Intriguing plot.
Good book. Enjoyed the historical background, especially the Romanov’s family life and the “what if” premise. Not a happy-ever-after tale, but war creates tragic situations that don’t always have a good resolution. I liked the characters, but didn’t feel like they were defined/explored very deeply. Tatiana seemed too good to be true. Spoiler warning: Thought Dmitri wasn’t very insightful not to have foreseen the outcome of his actions upon Rosa’s death.
I loved this book! A great read. The best one I have read in a long time. I find I compare all my current books to this one. I haven’t found one as good yet. I bought two other books of Gill Paul’s, I will see if they live up to The Secret Wife.
i felt the piece of history enhanced the story.
Loved reading this book. I enjoy historical fiction but this was “based” on actual events with some imaginative writing. Wonderful story…left me with mixed emotions. I recommend this book.
Good mix of history and contemporary stories…great details
This book was hard to put down. I shutter to think what the new regime of Russia in the early 1900s did to the Czar Nicholas and family. But this story gives a twist and turn to unexpected and it was hard to put down.
I couldn’t wait to rejoin these characters every time I picked up or sat down this book. A worthy read, well written.
Wow! I couldn’t put this book down and would absolutely recommend!
One of the best books I have read in a long time, Totally outside my usual subject matter.
This is a book that will stay with you forever, what a great story. Though I had some knowledge from my school years I never knew the full depth of the Romanovs tragic story. This book tells you so much more than the History books in school. What a grate writer this man is. I must read more of his books.
Entertaining and a little sad.
An interesting novel that combines modern day marriage problems with a brilliant, tragic love story for the ages. If you like historical fiction and are not bothered by the author’s liberties with the facts, you will enjoy this work.
