Great book about the Romanov family and the tragedy they encountered. Great love story! I enjoyed it.
I just remember not wanting to put it down. I enjoyed it very much.
Good story; felt like an original storyline. Surprise ending.
ridiculous characters, and unrealistic story
Great fictional story bounced off of history. Could not put it down.
A distraught Kitty flees to her late-great grandfather’s lakeside cabin in New York State after discovering that her husband has been unfaithful. Here she begins to discover hidden secrets from the past.
This amazing dual timeline goes back to the final years of the ill-fated Romanov dynasty. It is so well written and researched; I cannot recommend it highly enough.
It was an engaging romantic historical novel. It began in Russia in WW1 and centered on a romance between one of Czar Nicolas’ daughter and a soldier. Although the storyline was fictional the background history was very historical. I enjoyed reading about Russia in that time period and the developments that lead to the revolution and assassination of the Czar and family. It also gave a picture of Russians living post-war in Germany. It made me want to find out more about the last Czar of Russia and his family. The storyline was interesting but I loved the historical backdrop.
Loved loved it. Historical fiction.
This was a good story that was written well. I love historical fiction in which I learn about life in a different time and place and told in such a way that I connect with the characters and think about the story long after I have completed reading the book. I have enthusiastically recommended this book to many of my friends.
Wonderful knowledge of the life during the war and how it affected real life.
Very slow going.
makes you wonder if it could be true, so much mystery about that family
Excellent
I learned so much about the Romanov family. Story came to good ending but I still had questions. Very, very sad in places.
Highly recommended to anyone who likes historical facts intertwined with romantic fiction. This story fluctuates between the fall of the Russian Romanov family & the Bolshevik takeover (1900’s) and the present day connection of a British great granddaughter of a Russian soldier.
Truly a literary gem! The author seamlessly blended nonfiction with fiction. One of the best books I’ve read in a while.
I love the way that the author develops both the plot and her characters. A compelling, wonderful read. Two definite thumbs up.
I loved this story. Historically based novel re: romance and the Russian Tsar family – the Romanovs.
Wonderful book–looking forward to more books by Gill Paul
I enjoyed reading this novel.
There are two linked stories being told, one historical and one modern. The historical one was more gripping for me. I only read the modern one to figure out what happened to the characters in the historical story.
The hero of the modern story is the great great grandfather of the heroine of the modern story.
I found this novel to be slow-paced, relaxing and a haunting read. I probably won’t forget it.
