Winner in the 2016 RUBY awardsA birthday card out of the blue from his estranged father sends successful Seattle marketing man Alex Chernoff on a detour to Sweetheart in search of answers about his past. A day, maybe two, to tie up loose strings and he’ll be out of there, heading for Mexico, margaritas and blondes in bikinis.Emma Stanhope is all too familiar with hot, rich, entitled guys like … rich, entitled guys like Alex. They never hang around for long, especially not for a Plain Jane like herself. No problem. She’s smart and logical, like any good scientist, and knows better than to lose her heart.
What Emma doesn’t count on is chemistry—of the romantic kind. What Alex doesn’t count on is meeting the girl who’ll make him want to change his ways. But when he learns that he’s a secret from his father’s real family, he can’t stay in Sweetheart… even if he wants to.
Will love be enough to convince Alex to stay… for good?

Culture has changed and through wide spread DNA testing, people are finding out that parents are not biological, and that a time of secrets and coverups prevailed. It is a shock when our foundations crumble. The young man thought he had dealt with his emotions, only to find that they were simmering just under the surface. I totally emphasized with the longing to belong and catch a glimpse of the life he could have had but was denied to him by a parent. I turned the pages until the end, caught up in just how he would resolve his bitterness and uncertainty. It was encouraging for him to begin his steps to a happily ever after – I liked that.
Heartwarming and well written story that leaves a lasting impression. The characters are so well rounded, the plot is original and the writing style is the type that moves you through the story as you visualize everything you are reading. I WILL read this one again.
Great Read!!
A surprise son joined father and family and his life time love. Very good book.
Beautiful
Alex was turning 30 in his vacation and received a birthday card from the dad he hadn’t seen since he was 7. When he is suppose to fly out of Seattle to Cancun for vacation he ends up driving to Sweetheart, Montana. Emma is home for the Cherry Festival and finds out her grandparents house is for sale. She ends up across the street at Starr Cherry farm because she is them a favor. She & the guy in the BMW have had words on the road. But what happens next is interesting.
Great book usually the woman hasn’t told the man she’s pregnant and hides a child. The father had a child and never told his wife and father
Couldn’t put it down…
Short, fun read. I liked the characters and the premise of the story of the secret son.
THE SECRET SON is a standalone read with a HEA. I really enjoyed this story. A very wealthy man has a family They find out there was another son that even though he didn’t recognize or claim, he did play a part in his life and he supported him. He was quite the ladies man and a player. She refused to marry him because she knew he would never be faithful so she raised her son on her own.
Alex decides he wants his father to recognize him so he goes to the family home only to discover the father is not there. He doesn’t tell anyone who he is and he finds himself getting involved with his brother’s and sister. He also finds a love interest, Emma. It is a very good read and an interesting story. I definitely recommend it.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 7/31/19
It’s written well enough so it’s easy to read, but I don’t understand some of the other reviews that forgave the father at the end. I would also think that since he had a good upbringing from a stepfather who adopted him, and that he’s already in his 30s, that he wouldn’t be as obsessed with reconciling with this father who abandoned him totally when he was six.
I was not satisfied with the father’s explanation for his actions of walking away from his son. To me it seems selfish of him to walk away without any contact with his son for so many years, without any attempts to bridge a connection, even a birthday card. To me there weren’t any good reasons except that it sure made life easier for him not to have to explain a hidden son to his wife. Therefore, I find it hard to believe, and disappointing, for the son to so easily forgive and accept his father. The son has already forged a successful life without his dad, why need him now.
Enjoyed
Touching story. Alex’s history has you in tears at times. No child should have to experience the feeling of being unwanted. Can he get his happy ending?
This book was a different premise than any I’ve read before . I really liked that. . . a real possibility.
The characters are believable and interesting with faults of real people. I found myself wanting to smack the father several times, how could you let your child feel so unwanted. Good story.
great read
True to life,good story
Great book!

Was very good, loved the outcome.
At first I was unsure of Alex, but he turned out to be a very patient and giving guy.
