Emerging from their battered aircraft, the Americans found themselves in Albania, a country rife with chaos and danger. With hunger and sickness as their constant companions, they hid at night with courageous villagers who shared what little food they had, risking death at Nazi hands by doing so. The Secret Rescue: An Untold Story of American Nurses and Medics Behind the Nazi Lines
By Cate Lineberry
This is a good book but it I just thought there should be more as this felt more like a research or thesis paper. The agree that this is a story that needed to be told because a lot of people never realized it happened , like the soccer team in the Andes as an example. The nurses, medics, pilots, OSS British special forces and the Albanian villagers all were very brave to help them get to a port and be rescued. The story is a bit dry but the detail of everything from the start of when the hospital evacuation Army Air Force boarded the plane to the conclusion and their back story later in their lives was definitely a solid 3 star story.
