From the New York Times bestselling author of The Secret Keeper comes a “moody, suspenseful page-turner” (People, Best Book Pick) filled with mystery and spellbinding secrets.Living on her family’s idyllic lakeside estate in Cornwall, England, Alice Edevane is a bright, inquisitive, and precociously talented sixteen-year-old who loves to write stories. One midsummer’s eve, after a beautiful … midsummer’s eve, after a beautiful party drawing hundreds of guests to the estate has ended, the Edevanes discover that their youngest child, eleven-month-old Theo, has vanished without a trace. He is never found, and the family is torn apart, the house abandoned.
Decades later, Alice is living in London, having enjoyed a long successful career as a novelist. Miles away, Sadie Sparrow, a young detective in the London police force, is staying at her grandfather’s house in Cornwall. While out walking one day, she stumbles upon the old Edevane estate—now crumbling and covered with vines. Her curiosity is sparked, setting off a series of events that will bring her and Alice together and reveal shocking truths about a past long gone…yet more present than ever.
A lush, atmospheric tale of intertwined destinies from a masterful storyteller, The Lake House is an enthralling, thoroughly satisfying read.

Too confusing to read and didn’t flow well. Too much going on that could have been cut. It would have been a great book had it been 150 pages less.
A book in search of a good editor. It had an interesting story, but took way to much effort on the part of the reader to find it. The book could have been half as long and twice as interesting.
This story will stick with you for a long time. It is one you will want to read again.
Very hard to put down.
This was a great mystery! Twisted, surprising with wonderful characters and a great ending. I love stories that leave me satisfied in the end. I will absolutely read more Kate Morton books!
I have read all of Kate Mortons books that I know of, and have loved all of them!
I read it twice! I didn’t want the story to end! Great characters! I could almost smell the scents and feel the textures.
Excellent storylines
This was an excellent book.It kept my interest the whole time. I liked all the intricate plots from the past to present!
Kate Morton novels are the best! I have a hard time putting them down. This book doesn’t disappoint.
The Lake House was a mystery that sunk its teeth in me and wouldn’ t let go. It is full of plot twists and a judicious number of red herrings with an ending that was wholly unexpected.
If you only read one book this summer, make it this one. Kate Morton is a story teller extraordinaire. Her characters see, think, do, and feel things I can so realistically see myself seeing, thinking, feeling, and doing. Surprises abound in this book. Editing (spelling, punctuation, grammar) is top notch; NOTHING turns me off a book more than …
I read this book years ago and it is unforgettable
I loved this book! The beginning is slow, but when the book starts getting into the case, the story becomes captivating and hard to put down. My only concerns are that it takes a while to get used to the changing time periods, plot lines and POV of the different characters, but once you settle into this book all these aspects start coming together …
I love Kate Morton’s writing. She weaves intrigue into family complications, friends and community.. A rich and satisfying read!
I remember reading this book some time ago. And What I remember after reading the review about the story,is that it was a great read and I really enjoyed every page. Didn’t want to put it down. It kept me guessing til the end.
.loved it
Loved the “flawed” characters and the members of the family who were each keeping their own secrets. So many twists and turns and impossible to put down. Kate Morton writes with such detail and I have never been disappointed with the characters and the plots that she presents. This is a book that will definitely be worth reading.
