From the New York Times bestselling author of The Secret Keeper comes a “moody, suspenseful page-turner” (People, Best Book Pick) filled with mystery and spellbinding secrets.Living on her family’s idyllic lakeside estate in Cornwall, England, Alice Edevane is a bright, inquisitive, and precociously talented sixteen-year-old who loves to write stories. One midsummer’s eve, after a beautiful … midsummer’s eve, after a beautiful party drawing hundreds of guests to the estate has ended, the Edevanes discover that their youngest child, eleven-month-old Theo, has vanished without a trace. He is never found, and the family is torn apart, the house abandoned.
Decades later, Alice is living in London, having enjoyed a long successful career as a novelist. Miles away, Sadie Sparrow, a young detective in the London police force, is staying at her grandfather’s house in Cornwall. While out walking one day, she stumbles upon the old Edevane estate—now crumbling and covered with vines. Her curiosity is sparked, setting off a series of events that will bring her and Alice together and reveal shocking truths about a past long gone…yet more present than ever.
A lush, atmospheric tale of intertwined destinies from a masterful storyteller, The Lake House is an enthralling, thoroughly satisfying read.

Not nearly as good as her other books
I didn’t want this book to end. Absolutely loved it. Brilliant
Always worth reading but she dragged out the story beyond interesting.
This was an entertaining book and a good mystery on who done it which I never figured out until the end, but I found the author’s picturesque writing a bit too much, too many details and going back and forth in the decades – confused me until the end on how the characters matched up. Excellent writer, but too wordy for my liking. I liked it alot …
Pretty good story, but too tidy a wrap up
Great read!
I absolutely love Kate Morton’s style of writing!
Very enjoyable read.
Well written, fun to read, sappy but satisfying ending

Like all of Kate’s books it was a wonderful easy read
Another great Kate Morton book! Her descriptions are so vivid I feel like I’m right there, in the time period. She reveals just enough to keep you turning the pages!
My book club agreed with me – The best read in a while. The ending was weak.
The constant flip of the story was unsettling.
Two time lines that intersect keep you interested and moving forward to discover the mystery. Just when you think you have things figured out a new fact is revealed. Very enjoyable read.
One of the best books I’ve read! Fantastic twists and turns. Couldn’t put it down!
So bad I didn’t even finish
Really kept me reading. Enjoyed the intrigue
I really like Kate Morton books.
It moved a little slow for me but the descriptions really brought the places and people alive. Reminded me of Downton Abbey.
Truly one of the best books I have ever read. Love the way it weaves thru years and characters
