From the New York Times bestselling author of The Secret Keeper comes a “moody, suspenseful page-turner” (People, Best Book Pick) filled with mystery and spellbinding secrets.Living on her family’s idyllic lakeside estate in Cornwall, England, Alice Edevane is a bright, inquisitive, and precociously talented sixteen-year-old who loves to write stories. One midsummer’s eve, after a beautiful … midsummer’s eve, after a beautiful party drawing hundreds of guests to the estate has ended, the Edevanes discover that their youngest child, eleven-month-old Theo, has vanished without a trace. He is never found, and the family is torn apart, the house abandoned.
Decades later, Alice is living in London, having enjoyed a long successful career as a novelist. Miles away, Sadie Sparrow, a young detective in the London police force, is staying at her grandfather’s house in Cornwall. While out walking one day, she stumbles upon the old Edevane estate—now crumbling and covered with vines. Her curiosity is sparked, setting off a series of events that will bring her and Alice together and reveal shocking truths about a past long gone…yet more present than ever.
A lush, atmospheric tale of intertwined destinies from a masterful storyteller, The Lake House is an enthralling, thoroughly satisfying read.

A good story, a little slow in the middle but with a great end.
Great read Great Aurther
A mystery of the disappearance of a young toddler from the summer house of an English family without a trace is investigated by a young detective decades later.
The solution of the mystery provides a surprising ending for the story.
This book is for someone who loves to get into the story and can follow characters from the past and their relationships that have a relevance to the present. You get involved in the story, and it’s hard to put it down. It is not a thin book either. It was great, and I am thrilled that I just found another book by that author in the used book …
Book club worthy
a little disappointing compared to her others, very wordy, hard-to-like characters
Love all her books
A page turner.
Loved this book from beginning to end. Kate Morton is one of my favorite authors because her books grab your attention and won’t let go. I devour every page and can hardly wait for the next book.
this book starts off slow, but builds in interest as it switches between characters and time lines. It seems like 3 books worth of story, and would make a great mini-series or movie. Being a fan of strong women characters, especially mystery writers, this book combines genres in a unique way with history and mystery and family over many era’s. …
I love all the twists and turns and unknowns of Kate Morton’s books.
I love Kate Morton books! Thee is always a surprise at the end.
A great saga with very real characters and interesting plot twists. I like how she writes!!
Morton always delivers a page-turner. No disappointments here w/The Lake House. She keeps us on our toes to the end w/mysterious twists and turns.
I was not happy to finish it–was a good “place to be” while reading it! Looked forward to time to read!
Loved loved it!!!!
Loved this book!!!!!
Plodding through this book was painful. Repetitive and boring. Save yourself the time & read something else.
Always love this writer, but this was not my favorite book by her. While it was still worth reading, felt a little formulaic. I will still read everything she writes!
Best book I have read this year, hands down. The characters, the story, the relationships….the total package. Loved it!
