From the New York Times bestselling author of The Secret Keeper comes a “moody, suspenseful page-turner” (People, Best Book Pick) filled with mystery and spellbinding secrets.Living on her family’s idyllic lakeside estate in Cornwall, England, Alice Edevane is a bright, inquisitive, and precociously talented sixteen-year-old who loves to write stories. One midsummer’s eve, after a beautiful … midsummer’s eve, after a beautiful party drawing hundreds of guests to the estate has ended, the Edevanes discover that their youngest child, eleven-month-old Theo, has vanished without a trace. He is never found, and the family is torn apart, the house abandoned.
Decades later, Alice is living in London, having enjoyed a long successful career as a novelist. Miles away, Sadie Sparrow, a young detective in the London police force, is staying at her grandfather’s house in Cornwall. While out walking one day, she stumbles upon the old Edevane estate—now crumbling and covered with vines. Her curiosity is sparked, setting off a series of events that will bring her and Alice together and reveal shocking truths about a past long gone…yet more present than ever.
A lush, atmospheric tale of intertwined destinies from a masterful storyteller, The Lake House is an enthralling, thoroughly satisfying read.

Good writing
I enjoy Kate Morton’s books. To me the Lake House was ultimately a very sad and tragic story. The family is haunted by the disappearance of a child. As often is the case, the story in the past is more interesting that the present day story.
I haven’t enjoyed a novel like Kate Morton’s The Lake House in a long time. What a revelation!
A dual time narrative, the novel tells the parallel story of Alice Edavane whose baby brother Theo went missing from the family’s Cornish estate in the summer of 1933; and that of Sadie Sparrow, a Met detective from London on a compulsory “vacation,” …
A little slow at first but stay with it as it’s a good read!
Amazing book, but then again all Kate Morton books are worth the read
Fantastic! I love every Kate Morton book that I have read. She is an amazing story teller.
I love the way she seamingly goes from past to present and back.
This story was so beautiful in my imagination. The descriptions and writing are wonderful!
My all time favorite book! Well….on of them.
A great mystery story!
.
love, love, love her books, all of them but think this isms favorite next to The Forgotten Garden
The ending was a tad contrived, -but considering that the first 485 pages were amazing, I’ll let it slide.
This was the first of Kates book I read and now I can’t get enough.
This dragged on and on. Disappointing ending. yuck
I read a lot so can”t remember enough to rate. I love all of Kate Mortons books.
Kate Morton is a great story teller.
Love the house and the mysteries it holds. Kate Morton provides her signature twists.
Love all her books, great plot twists
This was a rich family saga and an absorbing mystery. Not sure the present-day police case added much. If the final clue was that obvious, wouldn’t it have been found during the official investigation? If Sadie needed a reason to be in Cornwall, couldn’t she just be on holiday? I loved it, though and couldn’t put it down in the end. Minus a star …
