From the New York Times bestselling author of The Secret Keeper comes a “moody, suspenseful page-turner” (People, Best Book Pick) filled with mystery and spellbinding secrets.Living on her family’s idyllic lakeside estate in Cornwall, England, Alice Edevane is a bright, inquisitive, and precociously talented sixteen-year-old who loves to write stories. One midsummer’s eve, after a beautiful … midsummer’s eve, after a beautiful party drawing hundreds of guests to the estate has ended, the Edevanes discover that their youngest child, eleven-month-old Theo, has vanished without a trace. He is never found, and the family is torn apart, the house abandoned.
Decades later, Alice is living in London, having enjoyed a long successful career as a novelist. Miles away, Sadie Sparrow, a young detective in the London police force, is staying at her grandfather’s house in Cornwall. While out walking one day, she stumbles upon the old Edevane estate—now crumbling and covered with vines. Her curiosity is sparked, setting off a series of events that will bring her and Alice together and reveal shocking truths about a past long gone…yet more present than ever.
A lush, atmospheric tale of intertwined destinies from a masterful storyteller, The Lake House is an enthralling, thoroughly satisfying read.

could not put it down till I finished!
Kate Morton delightfully delivers, as usual!! This one was one of my favorites. Morton is a master at weaving intrigue and secrets through a dual timeline. Love her books!
The description of the English countryside was interesting.
I have enjoyed everything that I have read by this author.
The Lake House by Kate Morton.
This is my first Kate Morton book, and I am happy to see she has a backlist. This darkly atmospheric story takes place in 1930’s Cornwall and in London,2003. I enjoyed the time-hops, the multi-layered characters, and pathways to the truths of the two main deaths–past and present. I enjoyed the audio version –the …
The Lake House was a great read. Secrets to uncover, mysteries to unravel, well written, believable characters! My kind of book!
I loved how well written this book was! The writing style reminding me of Gabaldon, mature and researched. Absolutely a favorite for me
I immediately read it a second time, just to get it fixed in my mind. I loved it!
This book needed an editor with a backbone. This could easily be two books. Although the author is clearly skilled, there was way too much detail that didn’t add to the structure of the book; description for description’s sake. The plot is completely unbelievable and there are no truly compelling characters. I read professional reviews before …
Anything Kate Morton writes is fabulous.
Loved it.
I love Kate Morton books, but this one was a bit of a let down, compared to the 3 others I’ve read.
I love reading all of Kate Morton’s books.
I liked the romance and the unpredictable story line of this book.
Late Morton is one of my favorite authors and this is another gem.
A lengthy work of historical suspense with parallel plots involving a child disappearance in 1933 at the Edevane family estate in Cornwall, and a 2003 case in London when a mother’s disappearance seemingly leads to her child’s abandonment. Sadie Sparrow is a detective who overstepped her bounds in the London case and lays low in Cornwall, where …
Good read
