The characters are well made and the environment was depicted perfectly. A really immersive world war 2 story.
I loved loved loved this book! I love a good historical fiction book! And for it to be combined with a mild romance makes it even better! Now it has been a while since I read the book but I still remember it clearly! It is a book you will never forget.
Great story from WWII London. Would make a wonderful movie.
From Cornwall to Coventry, The Secret Orphan illuminates another previously untold perspective of WWII. Life on the farm intrigued me as I was drawn in to the lives of those who did not pick up a weapon, yet fought for their freedom in their own way. Reading tip: upon completion of the story, I suggest going back to the first chapter and giving it another read through as I found so many answers to my questions simply be reviewing the first chapter once again.
This was a wonderful book. I would highly recommend it.
Felt not enough tie in from beginning intro of Rose and ‘conclusion,. Wanted a more finished ending. We saw Her leave fir Canada but nothing of intervening years.
Good storytelling.
Could not put it down. End was short and sweet though.
Quick read with unexpected outcomes. Realistic portrayal of WWII German bombing of England.
I’ve read a lot WWII fiction. I recommend this for its unique story line. This one is not as realistic as others I’ve read as to the daily living situations, the rationing, etc. The questionable identity of the caretaker and her husband was almost over-developed, if there is such a thing. I could certainly predict what was going to be revealed later in the story, so no mystery there.
this book is one of the best books i have read in a long time. it could be so real and might be
I like how the lead character had already learned how to handle men who felt women beneath them and wasn’t about to put up with it for a minute. The true reason for the loveless couple was a shock.
Loved this story!!!!!
Interesting story but felt let down at its ending. Would recommend as YA romance.
Good read.
This is a wonderful story of what happened to children in war-torn England during World War II. The story of lost and forgotten children and what to do with them. the author does an excellent job of telling the story of one such child.
I liked this book. The only disappointment was the end…..I wanted more!
I really liked it-in fact I read it twice. The characters were well developed, and I liked the way they worked through tough situations. I think it painted a realistic picture of the difficult war years in England.
I can’t imagine living in a place like England and being bombed in the war. Well written story. Read it till the wee hours of the morning.
Strong female character, mature for her age. Elenor had many decisions to make during WW II. There were twists and turns and well depicted characters. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, couldn’t put it down
