Abigail Foster is the practical daughter. She fears she will end up a spinster, especially as she has little dowry, and the one man she thought might marry her seems to have fallen for her younger, prettier sister. Facing financial ruin, Abigail and her father search for more affordable lodgings, until a strange solicitor arrives with an astounding offer: the use of a distant manor house … house abandoned for eighteen years. The Fosters journey to imposing Pembrooke Park and are startled to find it entombed as it was abruptly left: tea cups encrusted with dry tea, moth-eaten clothes in wardrobes, a doll’s house left mid-play…
The handsome local curate welcomes them, but though he and his family seem acquainted with the manor’s past, the only information they offer is a stern warning: Beware trespassers drawn by rumors that Pembrooke Park contains a secret room filled with treasure.
This catches Abigail’s attention. Hoping to restore her family’s finances–and her dowry–Abigail looks for this supposed treasure. But eerie sounds at night and footprints in the dust reveal she isn’t the only one secretly searching the house.
Then Abigail begins receiving anonymous letters, containing clues about the hidden room and startling discoveries about the past.
As old friends and new foes come calling at Pembrooke Park, secrets come to light. Will Abigail find the treasure and love she seeks…or very real danger?

I love Julie’s books.
Fantastic book! Great twists and very engaging! The book is intimidatingly long, but the plot moves at a great pace. You don’t want to miss out on this adventure, or meeting these characters.

Great for fans of Jane Austen!
I really enjoyed this story. Who leaves a house so abruptly and what treasures were hidden away in its walls? There were so many questions. So many secrets. This story kept my attention throughout as I tried to figure out what the secret of Pembrooke Park was. Full review is at my website: LoraineNunley(dot)com
I received this book complimentary …
I loved the mystery. There were different leads in the book and I would have a theory and then some new clues and I would shift. I didn’t find the mystery on the nose at all. There were a few different layers and questions to the mystery. I thought the h & H were strong characters and likeable. I had just finished a book that was a bit more heavy. …
Really enjoyed the story and characters. Wasn’t slow like a couple of her books have been in the past.
Great book. Kept me interested.
Julie Klassen is one of my favorite authors and The Secret of Pembrooke Park was another example of her talent as an author of Christian fiction. This entertaining story from the early 1800s was filled with mystery, interesting characters and romance. I am fascinated with life in London in those far off days and the descriptions of the culture …
I prefer inspirational, Christian books.
This might be my favorite of Julie Klassen’s books. It was a lot of characters to keep up with, some who were only talked about rather than actually appearing on the pages, but they were all necessary for the story. The secret treasure, the hidden room, the mysterious letter writer, and anonymous storyteller . . . not to mention the gentle romance …
Read til 4 am to finish the book. Loved seeing the secrets revealed. I appreciated the good news of Jesus woven into the story. Loved the book.
This book combines historical romance with a suspense genre. Lots of fun to read. Well written, a lot of characters and a decent length. So many books now are so short. This one lasts long enough to develop an interesting plot.
Love this author!
Fun little mystery!
I loved this book! It has mystery, romance and many characters who were interestingly woven into the story. I didn’t want it to end!
I have read all of her books and would recommend any of them to all readers. She writes well and weaves a great storyline. Read and enjoy. Wish there were more books from this author.
