The multi-million bestselling novel about a young girl’s journey towards healing and the transforming power of love, from the award-winning author of The Invention of Wings and The Book of Longings Set in South Carolina in 1964, The Secret Life of Bees tells the story of Lily Owens, whose life has been shaped around the blurred memory of the afternoon her mother was killed. When Lily’s … mother was killed. When Lily’s fierce-hearted black “stand-in mother,” Rosaleen, insults three of the deepest racists in town, Lily decides to spring them both free. They escape to Tiburon, South Carolina–a town that holds the secret to her mother’s past. Taken in by an eccentric trio of black beekeeping sister, Lily is introduced to their mesmerizing world of bees and honey, and the Black Madonna. This is a remarkable novel about divine female power, a story that women will share and pass on to their daughters for years to come.

One of my favorite books. The movie didn’t do it justice. It’s a must read.
Loved this story Sad when I reached the end.
I found it boring. I would not recommend it.
This has strong female characters and wonderful writing. I loved. Read more of my review at https://cyndiezahner.com/2020/04/30/the-secret-life-of-bees-by-sue-monk-kidd/
Loved the characters and the story was easy to fall in love with too!
One of my favorite books. I loved the story and the characters. It is an easy, quick read.
Outstanding book, and I speak as an AP English teacher. I strongly recommend it for advanced middle school students, and anyone older. I should mention that the movie version may not be exact, but it is also exceptional, with Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, and Queen Latifa as the bee-keeping sisters.
I only dislike the portrayed resolution of the conflict with her father; seems anticlimactic.
A little too sentimental for my taste, but generally a good read.
I have read this book several times. It’s a beautiful and well-written piece.
This is another book that I loved.
Loved it and afterwards had to read all of her other books, which were amazing as well.
I really enjoyed this book, it was an easy read right from the start! Heart wrenching at times but hopeful, the characters are amazing I would definitely read another book by this author
“This is a remarkable novel about divine female power, a story that women will share and pass on to their daughters for years to come.” I have to agree with this statement. I thoroughly enjoyed the book for the story, the characters, the depiction of life in the south in the 1960s, and setting.
Wonderful coming of age book set in the South. Young white girl becomes aware of racial prejudice and matures in her interaction and experiences with both races.
Beautiful book.
Dull and boring
Beautiful story telling. Surprising character connections
Loved it! I loved the book as much as the movie.
Loved this book!
