From the New York Times and internationally bestselling author of The Distant Hours, The Forgotten Garden, and The House at Riverton, a spellbinding new novel filled with mystery, thievery, murder, and enduring love.
During a summer party at the family farm in the English countryside, sixteen-year-old Laurel Nicolson has escaped to her childhood tree house and is happily dreaming of the future. … tree house and is happily dreaming of the future. She spies a stranger coming up the long road to the farm and watches as her mother speaks to him. Before the afternoon is over, Laurel will witness a shocking crime. A crime that challenges everything she knows about her family and especially her mother, Dorothy—her vivacious, loving, nearly perfect mother.
Now, fifty years later, Laurel is a successful and well-regarded actress living in London. The family is gathering at Greenacres farm for Dorothy’s ninetieth birthday. Realizing that this may be her last chance, Laurel searches for answers to the questions that still haunt her from that long-ago day, answers that can only be found in Dorothy’s past.
Dorothy’s story takes the reader from pre–WWII England through the blitz, to the ’60s and beyond. It is the secret history of three strangers from vastly different worlds—Dorothy, Vivien, and Jimmy—who meet by chance in wartime London and whose lives are forever entwined. The Secret Keeper explores longings and dreams and the unexpected consequences they sometimes bring. It is an unforgettable story of lovers and friends, deception and passion that is told—in Morton’s signature style—against a backdrop of events that changed the world.

Rating this book is hard…many times during the 1941 narrative I felt like heaving the book against a wall. The post-adolescent anguish everyone was wrestling with was a little hard to stomach considering the fact that they were living through the blitz! The soul searching and moaning and groaning really was overdone and I would have given it a …
Kate Morton is my favorite living author, and The Secret Keeper is my favorite among her books. Her language is always captivating and the twists are always unpredictable. I recommend this one all the time!
This book was stirring. If I had not read The Lake House first, it would be my favorite Late Morton book. The very best fictional account of the London Blitz I’ve ever read.
I’ve been binge-reading (actually binge-listening on Audible) Kate Morton’s books this year and I think this one is my favorite. It surprised me. I’m rarely surprised. I’ll leave it at that. I recommend all Kate Morton’s books. They are a fascinating mix of past and present, love and loss, dreams vs. reality … life’s surprising twists, and …
I’ve loved each of Kate Morton’s books, but this one has to be my favorite, probably as much for the characters as for the ploy and then of course, there is that nice little twist in the end – loved this one!
A classic Kate Morton! Love the way she can seamlessly weave three storylines together while jumping back and forth in time. Her prose is pitch perfect and dialogue crisp. Wish I could go back and start all over reading her books!
I highly recommend this book! One of the best books I’ve read that has a surprise ending. Read this book.
The story revolves around the 90 year old mother who is brought home fir het final days. Her daughters take care of her. They find bits and pieces of moms past. The story goes back and forth from part to present. The ending is a shocker
. Loved it.
I loved it so much I bought copies for Christmas gifts.
Kate Morton is a master of unpredictable twists and turns. She is able to keep my interest in a whole slew of different characters. Unlike in some books, I never have to turn back to find out “Now, who was that again?” Because her characters are so memorable. This book set in WWII not only opens one’s eyes to the horror and tragedy of the London …
I enjoyed the plot especially the ending.
An awesome book with twists and turns that keep you riveted to the storyline!
The setting flashes back and forth between modern day and WWII England, and I can’t say much more about it without ruining it. And I certainly wouldn’t want to do that because it’s got a killer twist.
Loved this book. I’ve read all of Kate Morton’s books. They’re all good.
I have adored every Kate Morton book I’ve ever read or listened to! This one is no exception. Morton spins tales that intertwine olden days and the present flawlessly! I loved this one!
One of my favorite books!
Loved it.
I love this book. Kate Morton hasn’t failed me yet and never fails to surprise me. I just couldn’t put this book down. You don’t want to miss this gem.
Beautiful story of love and how a secret changed the lives of everyone involved. As always with Morton’s stories, the elegant prose and perfect details engage the reader into a ‘you are there’ experience. Enchanting.
I was so surprised at this book’s ending, I dropped it on the ground. Amazing characters, writing, and plot. One of my all-time favorites.
I liked it very much, and love all of Kate Morton’s books
