New York Times Bestseller: From the journalists who covered the story, the shocking crimes of Gary Ridgway, America’s most prolific serial murderer. In the 1980s and 1990s, forty-nine women in the Seattle area were brutally murdered, their bodies dumped along the Green River and Pacific Highway South in Washington State. Despite an exhaustive investigation–even serial killer Ted Bundy was … investigation–even serial killer Ted Bundy was consulted to assist with psychological profiling–the sadistic killer continued to elude authorities for nearly twenty years.
Then, in 2001, after mounting suspicion and with DNA evidence finally in hand, King County police charged a fifty-two-year-old truck painter, Gary Ridgway, with the murders. His confession and the horrific details of his crimes only added fuel to the notoriety of the Green River Killer.
Journalists Carlton Smith and Tomas Guillen covered the murders for the Seattle Times from day one, receiving a Pulitzer Prize nomination for their work. They wrote the first edition of this book before the police had their man. Revised after Ridgway’s conviction and featuring chilling photographs from the case, The Search for the Green River Killer is the ultimate authoritative account of the Pacific Northwest killing spree that held a nation spellbound–and continues to horrify and fascinate, spawning dramatizations and documentaries of a demented killer who seemed unstoppable for decades.

Of course this is about Gary Ridgway, who murdered around 30 prostitutes in the SeaTak area of America’s northwest. It is interesting, even though this case has received mega coverage, to see what hoops LE had to go through to find out who the killer was. Highly recommended for aficionados of True Crime.
too much detail
An interesting and frustrating review of the prolonged hunt for a serial killer. The persistence of the law enforcement teams was admirable. It showed the seedy side of existence and the twisted mind of the killer quite well. It drags a bit in places, but considering it took twenty years to find the killer, it is to be expected.
This is an amazing retelling of the Green River murders and the mostly dedicated law enforcement teams that eventually solved this decades-old real life mystery. It afforded the reader with an eye opening view of how politics and ego can hinder a detective in the search for the truth. The book is long, over 500 pages, but worth the read.
Not well written but lots of information
I really liked this book, knowing the area, helped but at the end I could not remember if they found this person, and I was just at the ending, and I kept thinking after 20 years and they never found this person, it was like Jack the Ripper, no one will never know, until they added a piece. Wow, I could not believe it.
Interesting true crime book.
I’m not quite done reading yet. But its not to bad could have been a little more information . but would recommend
A very interesting book. Having lived in the area at the time this was happening I was familiar with the settings and the book was very informative. A good read.
This book is so well researched and written. BEST book I’ve read in a long time.
This story describes the rather lengthy process of the identification and capture of the Green River killer. The story bogs down in detail at times, but the process itself of solving the crimes was also a difficult and lengthy task. I found myself getting bored at times due to the length of the book.
Very scary sad book.
It’s a true story! With a real life Hero
Amazing what a human, or so he was called, can do!
