Former Navy SEAL Jed Tremayne knows discipline, hard work, and how to carry a rifle. So when his two best friends die suddenly and leave their daughter, Nala, in his care, Jed’s a little out of his element. Though he wants desperately to connect with her, Nala has withdrawn further and further into her books. Jed just needs a little help, and decides to hire a nanny, and who better than someone … someone who loves to read as much as Nala does? Sure, Tess Frederick is a bit too intriguing, a little too sexy in an adorably unconscious way, but she instantly connects with Nala so Jeb gives her the job.
Tess likes things ordered. But lately, her well-planned life has descended into a bit of chaos. Haunted by the suicide death of her former lover, and recovering from her bookstore going out of business, an open position for a private tutor seems like the perfect job to take while she figures out the rest of her life. Nala is an adorable and intelligent little girl and the two have an instant connection. Her guardian, Jed, is another matter altogether. Too good-looking. Too intense. And too sexy by far. If Tess can just get through the next few weeks with her heart intact, all will be well. The thing with hearts, though, no matter how hard she tries, she can’t seem to turn hers off.
But as Jed and Tess begin to fall for each other, an unknown danger threatens their burgeoning love, a danger that blindsides them both and threatens their very lives—and the life of the little girl they both love. Can two broken souls find the strength to conquer this dark menace or will they be lost in the fight to survive?
This novel contains sexual content, violence and profanity.

Katie Knight has completely defined her 3 central characters and drives the reader to empathize with each one. I truly enjoyed this book and her other books I have read so far. Keep them coming Katie. Job well written.

It’s got everything you want for a great romance…a retired Seal who is the guardian of his best friend/SEAL brother’s daughter; a woman trying to put her past behind her who becomes her nanny, danger, suspense and an attraction the two can’t deny!!
This was a quick and absorbing read involving the lives of three people, all with a painful past they are trying to get past. Can they survive the unknown danger that has somehow targeted the three of them to find their HEA? When Jed’s best friends were unexpectedly killed in an auto accident he becomes the guardian of their young daughter, Nala. Tess is still reeling from the unexpected suicide of her Fiancé over a year ago. As Tess begins to draw the withdrawn Nala out of her shell she also begins to fall for Jed and he for Tess. Can they survive or will this unknown danger take more lives? This was my first read by this author but I definitely look forward to finding more books to read.

This is romantic, suspenseful and heartwarming. Jed is emotionally damaged, stubborn and caring. Tess is caring, sweet and unsure. Jed took custody of his friends child after both of her parents were killed, but he has no clue what he’s doing, thus the need for a nanny/tutor. Tess is recovering from the loss of not only her fiancé, but also her confidence. Tess immediately forms a bond with Nala, and as much as Jed doesn’t want to hire her he does, for Nala. Neither of them wants to acknowledge the spark between them, but it builds until it can’t be ignored anymore. Danger is in the air, but Jed can’t figure out where it’s coming from or who it’s meant for. The storyline is intriguing and interesting, capturing your attention from the start.

Three people who are all dealing with their own emotional baggage that has left them devastated, find themselves thrown together. Former Navy SEAL Jed Tremayne, Tess Frederick, and Jed’s ward Nala’s story kept me on the edge of my seat. A well written story of a little girl who loses her parents and Jed becomes her guardian but he needs a nanny. What Jed does not know is that someone wants both him and Nala dead, there is suspense, drama, danger, and romance. I recommend this story. AN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING READ!!!
Man, talk about a shift change. This is one little jewel that will make stand up and take names. This is one action packed, fast paced, hard hitting, nerve racking, heart pounding, pulse racing, smooth flowing, page turning dynamo that keeps you riveted from start to finish. A rollercoaster ride of emotions and events that really pulls those heartstrings. All the drama, uncertainty, fear, heartache, danger and suspense increases while tension spirals. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances that make for one thrilling experience. The two main characters chemistry is intense, white hot and explosive. The characters are complex and believable with such depth and individuality it’s easy to relate. The scenes are written with such realism it really pulls this little gem together beautifully. Katie and Leslie did an incredible job bringing this read to life. Fantastic job guys, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
This story kept the pages turning and my mind racing. Who could be causing all this grief and why. I’ll be honest, it definitely wasn’t who I thought it was. The love between the three of them is undeniable but both Jed and Tess have problems they need to work through. I cannot wait to see what’s next!
I enjoyed this read. The characters were likable and I loved the H & h as a couple. Jed was a strong alpha male and it was sweet and cute to see him step up to take care of Nala. Tess was very sweet and had some very painful, heavy emotional baggage she was dealing with. I was so happy that Jed & Tess found one another!
When Jed agreed to be the Godfather for his friends daughter he never expected that 11 years later, after his friends are killed in a car accident, he would have to become the guardian for Nala. Today, the school he has been sending her to has told him they can not help her, he should look for another solution. Tessa arrives for her nanny position interview only to be told thank you but no thank you. As Tess is leaving Jed gets a call he needs to take so Tess waits for him to return. Tess then sees Nala and begins talking to her about the Harry Potter book she is reading. Jed notices Nala is connecting with Tess so he offers Tess a temporary job. This book is a romantic mystery book that will have you asking why and who.

The Seal’s Ward by Katie Knight is the story of a very jaded ex-SEAL who has taken responsibility for his dead friend’s daughter: Nala, and has hired a nanny/teacher for her: Tess. Tess is not really qualified but has forged a bond with Nala, and with her employer, Jed, as well. Nala’s parent have been killed in a car accident recently and until one night when the police call and tell Jed it wasn’t an accident but murder, everything had been going relatively smoothly. After that, odd things started to happen and hey seemed to center around Nala. Plus, Tess was becoming more than the nanny and that was distracting Jed, too.
This is a good story. There are plenty of sex and love, but a good mystery going on as well. Lots of characters to keep track of and it is not always clear who are the good guys and who are not. Both Jed and Tess are flawed people and Knight does a good job parsing out their backgrounds and personalities to show us how flawed they are. Their interactions with each other are sometimes smooth, sometimes painful…all well done. This is a fast-paced novel that readers will enjoy. I recommend it.
I was given a free ARC of The Seal’s Ward in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.

The story features Jed, Tess and Nala. The plot was great. I LOVE a good SEAL story but never before have I seen a worse depiction of a Navy SEAL. It was almost like he couldn’t think about more than one thing at a time. He used work as an excuse to escape home. Even after someone broke into his house to kidnap his ward he constantly left them alone. His best friends left their daughter to him after they died and he wanted to put her up for adoption. Maybe it’s just me. I don’t know. To look at Jed, you would think he’s bad a** and capable but his actions are the opposite. The end was the best part because after EVERYTHING that happened we’re left with a super sweet HEA.
A fantastic story The first one I have read from this author. About a little girl whose parents were killed in a car accident and their best friend who becomes her ward. being single he is out of his element and she’s withrawn into herself and only reads books. So he hires a nanny to help take care of her who also happens to be a therapists who deals in people who has speech problems like the little girl does. But someone is out to get the little girl who unknowingly knows something about her parents death. Danger and questions come to light.
I really liked Tess, she was so caring and sweet and I am glad she was able to overcome the things that happened to her. I loved how she was with Nala. I loved that Jed just took Nala when her parents died. I was sad that he felt like he couldn’t keep her for her own good. I am glad they found the person trying to harm them. I am glad that Jed and Tess finally admitted to each other their feelings and make a family with Nala.
