Former Navy SEAL Jed Tremayne knows discipline, hard work, and how to carry a rifle. So when his two best friends die suddenly and leave their daughter, Nala, in his care, Jed’s a little out of his element. Though he wants desperately to connect with her, Nala has withdrawn further and further into her books. Jed just needs a little help, and decides to hire a nanny, and who better than someone … someone who loves to read as much as Nala does? Sure, Tess Frederick is a bit too intriguing, a little too sexy in an adorably unconscious way, but she instantly connects with Nala so Jeb gives her the job.
Tess likes things ordered. But lately, her well-planned life has descended into a bit of chaos. Haunted by the suicide death of her former lover, and recovering from her bookstore going out of business, an open position for a private tutor seems like the perfect job to take while she figures out the rest of her life. Nala is an adorable and intelligent little girl and the two have an instant connection. Her guardian, Jed, is another matter altogether. Too good-looking. Too intense. And too sexy by far. If Tess can just get through the next few weeks with her heart intact, all will be well. The thing with hearts, though, no matter how hard she tries, she can’t seem to turn hers off.
But as Jed and Tess begin to fall for each other, an unknown danger threatens their burgeoning love, a danger that blindsides them both and threatens their very lives—and the life of the little girl they both love. Can two broken souls find the strength to conquer this dark menace or will they be lost in the fight to survive?
This novel contains sexual content, violence and profanity.

I had not read any books by this author and totally enjoyed this story about former Navy SEAL Jed Tremayne. Jed is the godparent for his friend’s daughter, Nala. When Nala’s parents are killed in a car accident, Jed steps in to take care of her. When the private school Nala is attending has concerns about her academic and social status, Jed removes her from the school and hires a tutor to home school her. Tess Frederick applies for the tutoring position and after almost not receiving the job, Jed notices that Nala is comfortable with Tess and hires her. New information comes to light in regards to the car accident and danger follows Nala as someone makes several attempts on her life. Who could be targeting a young girl? Tess is doing her best to protect Nala while dealing with issues from her past that left her struggling over the death of her former fiancé. Can Jed discover who is behind the attempts? Jed is fighting his attraction to Tess as he contacts his SEAL buddies to aid him with the investigation. A truly heartwarming romantic suspense as Jed and Tess face the danger head on. He’s out of his league. She’s in over her head. Love will make people do some crazy things and her heart seems to be in danger of costing her more than she could have bargained on. For the love of a child two strangers will move heaven and earth to keep her safe. The Seal’s Ward begins with a promise and ends with a family. There are some dangerous curves along the way, but the end result is worth the risk. Full of action, heat and heart.
A fantastic story The first one I have read from this author. About a little girl whose parents were killed in a car accident and their best friend who becomes her ward. being single he is out of his element and she’s withrawn into herself and only reads books. So he hires a nanny to help take care of her who also happens to be a therapists who deals in people who has speech problems like the little girl does. But someone is out to get the little girl who unknowingly knows something about her parents death. Danger and questions come to light.
A well written story with nice storyline and plot. Nice characters who are well defined and described. A story with drama, twists and turns that makes it worth the read. A mystery that has to be solved. Sometimes not that realistic in the story but it is enjoyable and worth the read.
He is a former SEAL and he is shocked when his friends did leaving their daughter to him. He struggles to get close as she draws further into her books. He needs to find a nanny. She has lost her bookshop and her lover. She takes the job to be a nanny. What will happen? Will she be able to help? Will they fall in love? Follow them

I absolutely loved this book and was honored to have been able to read and review. It was such a phenomenal read and had amazing characters as well as an amazing story line. I just could not get enough of it and once I started reading it I could not put it down. I recommend that you read it.
The Seals Ward is my first book by Katie Knight. The slow building romance between Jed and Tess is sweet. Nala is adorable. Watching both Jed and Tess falling in love with this precious little girl is heartwarming. There is action, danger, mystery, a few twists closer to the end. This is a short suspenseful read with great characters and plot, but there are a few unrealistic behaviors that just threw me off a bit. Over all I give it 4 stars. I will read another Katie Knight book in the future. I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley and voluntarily chose to leave an honest review
3.75 stars—The SEAL’s Ward by Katie Knight and Leslie North is an adult, contemporary, stand alone, romantic suspense story line focusing on former Navy SEAL Jed Tremayne, and speech therapist/nanny Tess Frederick.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Jed and Tess) The SEAL’s Ward follows the building relationship between former Navy SEAL Jed Tremayne, and speech therapist/nanny Tess Frederick. Jed Tremayne became a single father upon the death of his best friend Martin Jackson, and his wife leaving eleven year old Nala an orphan and alone. Struggling with emotional and speech issues since the death of her parents, Nala was dropped from her private school forcing Jed to hire a full-time nanny who would double as teacher and friend. Enter Tess Frederick, the woman with whom Jed would fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between Jed and Tess, and the potential fall-out as the investigation into the accident reveals a potential homicide, with the Jackson’s as the target.
Tess Frederick knows loss including the death of her boyfriend, and the loss of her business and job. Desperate for employment Tess applies to be the nanny to an eleven year old girl who has struggled since the death of her beloved parents. No one was good enough according to Jed but desperate times called for desperate measures when Jed is forced to hire the last woman he interviewed. Starting a new job meant time away from home, time away from Nala, the child who needed him more than he could have known.
The relationship between Tess and Jed is one of immediate attraction but Jed doesn’t do relationships especially with the woman he hired to care for his ward. Tess attraction to Jed was immediate but our heroine struggles in light of a previous loss, and the potential for losing her job. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate but limited; without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The SEAL’s Ward is a story of betrayal, vengeance, power and heart break. The premise is intriguing and engaging; the characters are energetic and dynamic; the romance is seductive. The secondary characters include local police and FBI, as well as several men who work with our leading hero. The requisite evil has many faces. The SEAL’s Ward is a story of loss, love, discovery and heart.
The SEAL’s Ward by Katie Knight is the story of Jed Tremayne and Tess Frederick.
Jed only knows the military, hard work and being strong. When his two friends die and leave him to care for their daughter, Nala, he is at a loss. Jed learns that Nala needs help too in school so he is recommend to hire Tess to help them. But Tess brings more to the table than just taking care of Nala…she starts to open up feeling in him. But danger is just around the corner so he is out to protect those he has come to love.
Enjoyed their story.
The tragedy that brings Jed, Tess, and Nala together, is both heart wrenching and heartwarming at the same time. Tess connecting with Nala, as she gently brings out the secrets that are locked in this little girl’s head of the death of her parents was emotional as well as healing for Nala. A page turner, the story is filled with suspense, drama, and romance, as a killer is brought to justice and the three of them become a family. My first read by Katie Knight, I was gifted “The Seal’s Ward” by Booksprout., and voluntarily give my opinion. 4.5 Stars!
Emotionally gripping, sweetly sexy, action packed and engaging adventure to find justice and they stumble into a romance that neither one is really looking for…. this journey is filled with danger, intrigue and heart pounding twist that kept me reading from beginning to end.

Nice romance. I loved the book and I recommend it.
After losing his best friend, Jed gets the temporary custody of his daughter. But he can’t get her to open up, and he can’t stay with her all day at home either. He needs to work, for him, and for her. He seeks help and ends up hiring Tess. She wasn’t his first choice, he didn’t think it was the best idea, but she is the only one who has managed to connect with Nala, and he will do anything for the girl. Tess didn’t want that job either, but she needed one and that was the best option.
I love Jed and Tess, separately and together. Both have suffered, both need healing.
Jed doesn’t believe in love, he doesn’t believe he deserves it. He’s a man who sacrifices himself for others, who gives everything, and doesn’t believe he deserves anything. He doesn’t want to hurt Tess, he thinks she deserves much more than he does, commitment, a family, and he can’t give it to her. And he thinks that Nala also deserves more, a family that treats her as she deserves, that gives her the life he thinks he can’t give her. He grew up without love, he doesn’t want the same for her. He will do anything for her. He is noble, because it will hurt him to lose her, but he wants the best for her.
Tess can’t get close to anyone. She suffered when she lost Theo, and she doesn’t want to go through the same thing, to open up and have her heart broken. She wants to be with Jed, but she knows that he doesn’t want the same thing. She thought she’d have enough with what they had, but she didn’t. She wanted much more, Jed and Nala in her life, forever.
Both are attracted to each other from the first moment, they try to resist, but they can’t do it.
I love the bond Tess and Nala share, their love for books (Sirius rules), and also the bond Jed has with Nala. But there are times when Nala seems younger than she is.
I love the mystery.
I like this story It grabbed and caught my attention from the first page kept me enthralled has so many twist and turns and unexpected challenges in between till the finale
Can’t Fight True Love
Katie Knight captured the true struggles some couples have when hiding their true feelings while getting to know each other. Fear plays a huge role in that. The way Ms. Knight puts this couples’ thoughts into the rhetoric is so indicative of people in the real world who have been traumatized so much they are afraid to allow themselves true happiness. I related to them both on so many levels. If you’re looking for a good mystery romance, this is definitely the book for you.

Military, single guy, sudden guardian, add all the mystery, suspense and romance. MUST READ!
The SEAL’s Ward is my second read by Katie Knight and it was fabulous! This story as so much going for it; packed with action, mystery and intrigue, plus the added emotional turmoil created by a hardened former SEAL, falling headlong into love with an orphaned 11 year-old girl. Then you have the unexpected impact of the newly hired nanny/tutor, which creates all kinds of unwanted and undeniable attraction.
While this is only a short story, The SEAL’s Ward still managed to encompass the same level of total immersion that a reader experiences in a 300 plus page book. The characters were interesting, the plot original, and the overall world building and writing style ensured an easy to follow story with plenty of excitement and romance too. I look forward to reading the next Katie Knight story.
A good story all the way around. I really liked it. Romance, danger, mysteries and great characters. Speaking of characters, all of them had depth something that I really enjoy. Nala contributes quite a bit to the story. By the way, what a great name, Nala.
The danger level was held at a pretty good rate throughout. The “accidents” came out just as you were reading about how Jed, Tess and Nala were starting to gel together. It caused plenty of action.
I liked how the author brought the emotions through when it came to both M.C.’s. Jed because of his upbringing was still reeling from feeling too unworthy when it comes to someone loving him. Tess is afraid to open her heart again to love. But she’s finding it harder and harder to keep both Jed and Nala on the outside of her heart.
There is a few twists waiting for the reader as we got closer to the end. Did I like how it ended? That would be a solid yes.
I voluntarily read a copy of this book via Netgalley and this is my honest opinion of it.
Kidnapping, murder, mystery, friendship, and family are some of the exciting things you will read about in this well written amazing book. The author’s writing style will draw you into the story – the descriptions and imagery are outstanding. The plot is consistent, emotionally deep, and well-developed. Amazing characters who are broken emotionally and just perfect for each other; the chemistry between them is intense, hot, and off the charts. Definitely recommended.

Tessa is a speech therapist and then a bookstore owner. When her fiancé commits suicide and then she loses her bookstore, she applies for a nanny position. Jed is a former SEAL but when he two best friends are killed in a car accident, he suddenly finds himself raising an eleven year old girl. The school she’s going to tell Jed she’s not meeting their requirements so he must find someone to homeschool her. Living together takes some getting used to but Jed and Tessa finally find their way. Even though neither wants a relationship, they aren’t opposed to sex with no strings. When strange things starts to happen, he’ll do anything to protect them. Can they mend each other’s heart and be a family?
Excellent story with suspense, sex, and mystery. I couldn’t put it down, it kept me on the edge of my seat. Sexy SEALs, a beautiful nanny, and the cutest little girl.

3.5 stars. Tess interviews for a nanny and tutoring job she isn’t quite qualified for by Jed who is sole custodian for his goddaughter of his best friends killed in a car accident. But the child Nala is taken with Tess and wants her to stay and teach her. Tess was a speech therapist and is subtlety teach her not to stutter. All of a sudden, there are several murder attempts against them and he has to figure out who it is before they are killed. Tess and Jed are both emotionally damaged by situations in their pasts. Can they get beyond them and have a real relationship? Nicely written and entertaining read.
