THE SEA OF TRAVAIL: Kristen Gleeson
A thief leaves Venice to travel the world seeking a valuable book, and is entrapped by a Pasha. Without resources, the love of his life seeks survival by becoming a high-priced courtesan. If they are reunited, will their bond survive?
It’s a very direct look at the world and lives of its characters. It certainly had some new perspectives and subject matter. I was, actually, pleased with how frank the author was in dealing with some touchey subject matter without being vulgar or unrealistically dramatic.
If you enjoy historical Medieval novels with strong characters, this is one to read.
It was interesting. Not the best book. It needs better character development
Book 2 did not disappoint. I always hesitate with books in a series, but this series was worth the investment of time. While these are fictional, I found that each book spurred me to read up on historical happenings just to better educate myself and I appreciate that. The characters throughout the series are developed well and continue to be entertaining. I whipped right through books 1-3 and am anxiously awaiting book 4 to finish the series.
First page is porn. Did not try much past that.
At first it took some effort to remember all the characters as they were introduced. Then I got interested in the main characters and the many twists in their lives. I would like to read the sequel.
Thoroughly entertained early on. Lost lovers trying to find each other after being separated by circumstances of the times, the year being 1445. I would have rated this a 5 instead of a 4 except for the abrupt ending. Not quite a cliffhanger in the true sense, which I suppose is what the author intended, but enough for me to yearn for more. I will definitely purchase the next book in the series.
I enjoyed this book for the mingling of cultures and the unique topics such as female Renaissance artists, Jannisaries, and Venetian courtesans. However, this is part of a series and should not be considered a stand alone book. As the second in the series, the character development was nonexistent, presumably covered in book one. I’m reading basically for the historical references at this point and suddenly, without any warning the book ends. Of course the reader is referred to book three. Honestly, if you have to rely on this form of literary subterfuge to sell more books please warn the reader to read the books in order and the reader can choose the level of commitment and purchases they are willing to make. This could have been an epic novel but turned out to be a fragmented disappointment.
There are several books in this series and I have bought all but the last one which I intend to buy! All of these books are easy to read. They are a bit suspenseful. Well worth reading.
Slow read with poor character development and plot development. Couldn’t get past the first 75 pages.
Difficult start, but captured and kept my attention through to the end!
If I read it, it was excellent !!!!! I READ IT. JAK, jr.
